Is it just me?

I need an outside opinion on my doctors office. I went in last week to go over my clomid again. We are on the 3rd cycle and I asked if this didn't work are they going to up my dosage from 50mg, or should we consider doing an IUI at some point. So she told me no if it was someone else yea would be looking at other options but since you have kids I dont think we need to with you. Now am I just being overly hormonal or would that rub you the wrong way as well? It just seems like everytime I go there I leave mad about something, I'm thinking I really need to find a new doctor.

Re: Is it just me?

  • I haven't had the same treatment as you (had to go straight to IVF), but I am a firm believer in trusting your gut.  If you are not comfortable with your doctor, I would get a second opinion.  That way you can get some more info, and also see if another doctor is a better fit for you.

I think it's very important to trust/feel comfortable with your doctor and their staff.  I left my OB, who I really liked, over repeated issues with her staff (The final straw was messing up the scheduling of my NT scan, which nearly resulted in not being able to get it done at all, and then refusing to take responsibility for their actions.  I felt like if I couldn't trust them in the 1st Tri, I sure as hell wasn't going to in the 2nd and 3rd.).

IF treatments are stressful enough without having issues with your treatment providers, so I say check out somebody else.  I was very pleased with my decision to change OBs, and went on to have a very positive experience (I know an OB is not the same as the RE, but still).  Besides, it's not like you can't go back to your current MD if you change your mind.

  • Hmm it would bother me as far as I don't want this to take forever so please by all means Doc get more aggressive. Though I would gather what she meant was that since you are "proven" it shouldn't take being overly aggressive to get you pregnant. You do call the shots though, so if there is a need for a next time, I would TELL her you want to bump up your dose. Good luck!

  • That would definitely rub me the wrong way. Just because you have a child, doesn't mean you shouldn't be aggressive with treatments.
  • First, a few questions:  Are you seeing an RE?  Is she monitoring you with u/s?  Are you having cd21 b/w?  If you b/w is showing that you are ovulating then perhaps she is right.  But, if you want to try an IUI she shouldn't say no.

Second, just b/c you have a previous child doesn't mean that this time will be easy.  Secondary IF means several things.  Someone with IF trying for a second child or someone having IF troubles having another child.  I conceived my twins no meds, then my DS 1st round of clomid, this time we did 6 months clomid + IUI and now we are on month 3 of injectables. All that to say, if you are ready to move forward DO IT!!  You are not getting younger.

Third, sounds like you need a new RE (or at least I would).

It is my OB/GYN. They are just now doing blood work this cycle, and wont do ultrasound. I called and got an appointment with a specialist, it isn't till Nov. but better then nothing I guess. I'm just afraid I'll get there and they wont take me seriously either.

  • I would find an RE. I conceived my DD on our own but can't seem to get pregnant now. Most RE try a few months and then get more aggressive. I would find someone new.

  • I'm glad you have an appointment with an RE. I am pretty sure your experience will be much different. My RE once told me that REs help you get pregnant and Ob/gyns help you stay that way until your delivery date, so their areas of expertise are much different.

I'm sorry your appointment isn't until November, but I hope it is a good one.

Dx: PCOS and short luteal phase
18 cycles (3 with our RE) - Metformin + Clomid + HCG booster did the trick!
    BFP #1 6/22/09 EDD: 3/2/10 DS born: 3/8/10

    TTC #2 since Dec 2011
    BFP #2 7/8/12 EDD: 3/18/12 M/C @ 9w1d: 8/16/12

  • If you want to be more aggressive then tell your Dr. that you want to try a higher dose on clomid. It may depend on your b/w. My b/w last month showed a normal o and on meds they are ok with higher levels. So I was confident in asking to up my clomid this cycle.

I think you will find the RE refreshing and I would bet money that they take you serious. It is their job to get you pg.  My OB/GYN's office used to take forever, but at the RE I am in and out faster than the drive there!  They don't skip or skimp on anything!  For instance, they found a thyroid imbalance my first round of b/w.

  • Since I am all OOP I pretty much dictate what I am going to do. If your dr isn't willing to be more aggressive for you, then I would find someone who is. GL!
