Blood Draw at 1 Year Appt?

When scheduling the 1 year check up, the nurse mentioned that they would do a blood draw at that appointment. I didn't think to ask why or what they were checking for, but I am curious if it is pretty standard. DD has never had her blood drawn before. Did your LO get one done at this or any other check up? If you haven't had the 1 year visit yet, do you know if LO will be having one done? Thanks!

Yes. I know they look for other things but where I live has mandatory lead testing at 1 year.

We had a blood draw done in July before her 9 month visit. They wanted to check her iron level and for lead exposure. They didn't say if we would have to do it again at 1 year or not. Make sure you give her plenty of fluids starting about 2 days before. We actually had to go twice because the first time they couldn't get her blood flowing.

Ha, they said they were going to draw blood for lead and something else today but they forgot. Oops! I guess we will be going back to the Dr.

This is the same for us too. Nora had her check up last week, and we found out her iron levels were just a little below where they want them to be. We just have to make sure to give her a little extra iron-rich foods. Nora was more freaked out about someone holding her harm than having her finger pricked.

Our state mandates blood testing done at 1 yr, 2 1/2 and before entering kindergarten--they do a full panel, check iron levels and for lead.

No blood drawn here at any of Lily's appointments, but it's sounding like maybe it's a USA thing and not done here.

DS1 never had to have blood taken till we moved to the states and he was about to enter kindergarten.
