Pregnancy related question

I don't post often but I have a question for BTDT moms. I just had my a/s ultrasound on Monday and today the nurse called to schedule a second ultrasound in 4 weeks due to low amniotic fluid. I am only 18 weeks along and really scared. I made the mistake of using Dr. Google (I know better) and saw the possible reasons for low fluid. Did anyone here get diagnosed with low amniotic fluid early in their pregnancy and end up not having it or any complications? TIA

Re: Pregnancy related question

  • I have not experienced this but...

A friend of mine had PROM (a totally different situation than you) but they made her increase her fluid intake like crazy to try to generate more amniotic fluid.

Never ever google things, no good comes of it!  You need to relax, drink lots of water and trust your Dr.!  You may be just on the low end of normal and this would not be something to freak out about.  I believe they measure amniotic fluid by percentile and if you are at a certain percentile they flag you.  Although this will be near impossible, take a deep breath and chill.  I'll keep you in my T&P's and keep us updated.

Don't be afraid to call your Dr. for clarification on the situation.  Peace of mind is worth a lot!

  • I had low amniotic fluid with ds1..I made it to 41 weeks. I had an ultrasound at 20 weeks, 24, 30 and 34... then stress tests from 35-40 weeks.

My advice is stated above... Drink plenty of fluids. Try not to stress, I am sure your doctor will monitor you and let you know if there is any complications.

  • I had low amniotic fluid at the end with DD, and it was suggested that I up my fluids.
  • Thanks Ladies,

I am trying to stay calm and I have upped my water intake. I am looking for the positive in the situation (and staying away from google), if it were something extreeme they would bring me in right away, so by waiting a month to check the fluids again it can't be that bad in their mind. My next OB appointment is next Wednesday and I have a laundry list of questions for them. I will let you know how things go. Thanks again.
