Where is baby sleeping?

Where do yall plan on having baby sleep when he/she comes home from the hospital?  I'm thinking of setting up baby's playpen in our bedroom instead of getting a separate bassinet... anyone else plan on doing this?

Re: Where is baby sleeping?

  • Us!  We have the crib all ready to go but we have a bassinet in our bedroom (still in the box).  I plan on having him in the bassinet at night and putting him in his crib when he naps during the day so its not such a huge adjustment when its time to stop using the bassinet.

Edit - Just realized you said you weren't using a bassinet!!  I guess I don't have the same plan as you after all..

  • She will be in her crib in her room. We did that with DD and it worked out well for us.

  • We are using the bassinet portion of the play yard in our room at night. Like PP, I plan to use the crib for at least some daytime naps (unless I am going to nap with him). We have a RNP that will only be used for the occasional nap and if needed in case of reflux.

  • That is exactly what we are doing.  Its what we did for over a year with DD; her adorable nursery was a big waste, so we didn't even do a nursey for LO.  He will basically be rooming with us for a while and then when he gets bigger he can share a room with his big sister.  =)

First two weeks he will be in the PNP in the living room then straight to crib in his room once I can go up stairs.

Pretty much this. Although for us it has nothing to do with me being able to go upstairs... at least right now it doesn't. We will keep her downstairs until her night feedings decrease in frequency. I know DS was in his crib at 3 weeks... can't remember if we put him there much earlier than that.

  • Her crib in her room.

We have a glider that reclines, as well as a chair futon in there for us to sleep on.

  • We have her crib set up in our room and plan on using that immediately, back up plan is the FP Rock n' Play also in our room.
  • We have the baby's crib set up in our room.

  • We'll be setting up the PNP and will be using that in combination with bedsharing once we get side-lying nursing down pat.

  • BabyBay cosleeper attached to my side of the bed until he can sit up/roll on the regular, then we'll put the gate in and detach it from the bed.  Once we move (we currently are 3 months into a one year lease on a 1BR), he will get a crib in his own room.

  • I just have the crib at the foot of my bed, then after 6 months I'll move the crib into the nursery.

  • I originally thought he'd sleep in his PNP in our bedroom but DH and I have talked about it and decided to start him in his nursery right away so he'll be in his crib from day one. If that doesn't work out for whatever reason he'll move to the PNP at the foot of our bed but we figure, for the future, it'll be easier if he doesn't have to readjust from sleeping close to us in our room to being alone in his.

  • In a Moses basket or the co-sleeper in our room whichever one he prefers. We also ave a rock n play. We will just have to see what our little man likes. We will move him to hs crib around 5-6 months.

Why can't you go upstairs? Just curious if I'm going to have the same issue!!

  • Love this idea! I never thought about putting him in the crib during nap times.
I just planned on putting him in his bassinet during night and nap time.

And this is why I love coming on this board!

  • We are planning on having him sleep in his crib from day 1. The nursery is just right across the hall from our bedroom. We do have a rock n play that we will probably use a lot for naps.

  • We were planning to use the RNP in our room until we can transition into the crib.  Clueless FTM, so you know what they say about the best-laid plans . . . The nursery is next door to our room and there's a futon in the room, so maybe some combination of both.  (I really don't have any idea - don't tell anyone).
  • Our tentative plans are RnP in our room for the first few weeks, or maybe the newborn napper on the PnP in our room. We'll see what she sleeps better in. Once I'm able to handle stairs better she will sleep in her crib.

  • I have a mini armsreach cosleeper where baby will sleep at first, then the crib.  Hoping to use the crib for naps like PPs to help with the transition.

  • We'll probably do the RNP, like with DS. Unless I have a moment of crazy and decide to spring for the co-sleeper, so I don't have to cart the RNP up and down stairs if I want to use it for naps too.

  • DD will be in the cosleeper attached to our bed at night for quite awhile.  She will nap in her crib during the day.

  • I'm surprised so many of you plan on "transitioning" your baby to the crib after just a few weeks.  Why not start from the beginning?  It just seems like adding more work and stress on both you and the baby.  Everything I hear is about forming habits for your baby to make a happier baby.

I plan on going straight to crib, but also know things don't always go as planned.  In the event of reflux, I did register for a RNP but that will be a last resort for sleeping.

  • I have a bassinet for our bedroom but a pack and play would work too.

I kept DD in a bassinet in out room for about 3 months and then another 2 months for bedtime in the bassinet in her nursery. By 5 months she spent every nap and bedtime in the crib.

  • I plan to follow the same routine I did with my DD1.  At night, she will be in the co-sleeper next to our bed.  During the day, for naps, I will keep her down here on mai level in the pack n play or in the detachable bassinet that came with our stroller (uppababy).  We'll see how that all works, as I don't want my toddler to wake up new baby constantly, but baby will likely quickly be accustomed to the noise!

  • We have an Arms-Reach Co-Sleeper set up in our room. Much easier to feed her in the middle of the night, at least that is what all of my mom friends have told me :)

You are right about setting routines and forming habits for your baby.  I believe that is of strict importance from the beginning.  That being said, you have to find what rhythm works for your family.  You may like having the baby in his/her own room or you may decide you like having the baby in your room.  It all depends on what works for y'all.  I suggest doing research about sleeping options and life with a newborn and then take that info into consideration when baby gets home and figure out a routine that works for you.  Good luck, but I think you'll be ahead of the game when you get your routine figured out. • We're going to see what kind of sleeper we get!  I have a rock 'n play for our room if that makes more sense, but he's going to sleep in his crib most of the time.  We all sleep in our own beds in my house!
  • Crib in our room unless I'm too tired to put him back in there then I'll just let sleep with me...yes I know bad habit but I have a busy toddler too!!!! Tired momma!
  • Our LO will be sleeping in our room for the first few months in a bassinet. I just finished childbirthing classes and I was not aware that according to studies, this reduces SIDS.

However, the LO has a room that is ready.

  • we'll be using the rock n play in our bedroom and will likely transition to the crib once she starts to grow out of it.

    Thanks!!

  • I am going to put either the Pack n Play or the Rock n Play in our bedroom for the first weeks... We will have to see which one works out better.
