I'm *browsing* (lol I'm only 6ish wks along and I'm already on BRU starting a registry! I just LOVE baby stuff!) through baby carriers and need some advice.
Since I'm heading towards 2U2 here, I really want to start right off the bat with wearing LO#2... we didn't start with DD until she was 3ish months old and she hated our Mei Tai one (sp? and we had the Infantino brand). So around 4 months I splurged on a Maya Wrap and have been using it die hard since then, from kangaroo to hip. I know I'm going to want, probably, a wrap carrier to start LO#2 off in. I'm looking at the Moby (as it's the obvious brand) but I also know that there are a few other good ones. The Boba wrap looks like a good choice too? Now this would be only until LO#2 would "graduate" to say a Maya... so stretching isn't really a big concern of mine.
Another thing, on outings (as the above would mostly be just at home, and maybe say zoo, park etc. where we may use the stroller with DD) I'm looking to wear DD and use the infant seat&frame for LO#2. So I'm not sure if I should invest in a good, more structured carrier for DD (she'll be 19months when baby comes in June) or if I should just stop rely solely on babywearing the baby and stroller/walking/cart for DD?
Sorry for the long ramble... any advice for this situation would be wonderful! I know from the past that there are some amazingly knowledgeable baby wearing women on this board! TIA
ETA: So recs for a good newborn wrap (or other carrier if there's a great one!) and recs for a good more structured carrier for DD 10mths+ would be perfect! I know it's based on my comfort, but a carrier for DD that will work while I'm pregnant would be sweet! Something simple too... I still haven't totally worked the kinks out of my Maya yet...
ETA: I'm also petite if that has any bearing... I'm 5'0"
Re: Baby Wearing 2U2 Advice
To be honest you don't need to get a stretchy wrap for a NB. I have two woven wraps and plan to use those with LO #2. With DD at the moment I'm using a SSC (Toddler Tula as she outgrew the Ergo).
By your siggy pic it appears that you're using a ring sling. Those are great for NBs. But I personally find them uncomfortable for long period with DD (you may not find this).
You may find that wearing while pregnant isn't comfortable, I'm lucky and I'm carrying high so I'm still in my pp jeans and still wearing DD in a SSC. Some people prefer to tie above their bump so for this a MT or woven wrap is better so what works for some doesn't work for others. I'd continue with what you have for now and see how things go.
I'm planning on tandem wearing so DD'll go on my back in my SSC and LO#2 will go on my front in either a MT, ring sling or woven wrap.
In terms of upgrading your carrier for your older child, I would wait until your second child arrives. At 19 months, she may no longer want/need to be worn. My son could walk pretty much anywhere by that age and didn't like carriers by that point. On the other hand, I still wear my 21 month old DD everyday--every child is different.
I didn't do wraps or anything--I broke the cardinal babywearing rule and wore my youngest in a bjorn until she was around 5ish months and I started using the ergo which we still use daily. I love it.
There's no reason you can't use your Maya wrap with a newborn - the upright tummy to tummy position is great for newborns!
Do you still have the mei tai? It might be worth trying it again with your daughter now - I think mei tais are very comfortable when pregnant since you can tie over or under your belly - and the bigger the belly you get, the more you will want her on your back. If you do ever tandem wear, a mei tai makes an easy choice.
My siggy link has lots of other info that may help you sort through your options. Given that you are petite, if you decide on a buckle carrier I'd definitely try to try it on before you buy as many are an awkward fit for those outside the average size range.

Thankyou ladies!
ncbelle, I'll check out your siggy link! I do have my mei tai, I'm thinking about maybe getting a "real" one though, the infantino one is a great save but it's super super heavy fabric and I feel like the straps are much shorter then other ones.
