April 2013 Moms

When are you starting your registry?

My best friend is coming to town the weekend before Thanksgiving and wants to take me to start my registry.  I kind of feel like that's a bit early since I'm not due til the middle of April, but I don't really know.  I'm going team green, and I'm sure I'll change my mind on what I want a million times before I deliver, so I don't want to get all registered just to change it every other week.  When are you starting your registry?  or have you already?

Re: When are you starting your registry?

  • I went ahead and did mine w/my BFF's encouragement a few weeks ago. This allowed me to go back, research a few things, refine the list. So that, by the time people go to look at the list and buy anything, I will have it drilled down to what we really need/want. There are so many things to remember and register for, I really don't think you can start too early.

I will say that I didn't do a lot of clothes or gender specific items.

  • We plan on doing it in November after we know the gender. The inlaws already said they plan on buying baby stuff for Christmas, and they want to know what we need.

  • I've already started adding a few gender neutral things to my registry on Amazon.  I don't think there is a right or wrong time to do it...it's really up to you!

  • You can research & add stuff to your registery anytime you want, start now if you really want to.  You don't have to make it public until much later.

I used a registry to keep track of all the things I had been keeping my eye on, or narrowed down and wanted to go see/touch/feel in person before choosing what I ultimately would want.  I think I initially set up like 3 registries, one each at Target, BRU and Amazon while I shopped around.  I ended up just making the Amazon one public and deleting the other two.

  • We planned to start before the holidays because we know family will buy things for the baby and we prefer they buy the things we want/will use.
  • I've been doing research and just bought Baby Bargains on Amazon.  I'm going to be starting my registry soon.  My family is already asking me for it!  I am finding out the gender in Nov, but I wanted alot of gender neutral to keep for Baby #2 in the future.

This is what I'm doing.  I've been learning about great baby items that I never knew existed and I don't want to forget them.  Ive selected a few things on my registry in whatever colors.  I'm going to find out the gender, so I can go back and pick a different color later.

  • Since this is baby # 2 for us, we probably won't start a registry. Although I have been toying with the idea of making an Amazon Wishlist, to keep track of all of the items we will be purchasing.

With DD, I started my registry around 14-15 weeks. It was nice to be able to go through and check reviews on certain items, and change the registry if need be. I did most of mine on-line.

    BFP #1: 5-14-2010, DD born 1-22-2011
    BFP #2: 4-20-2012, Natural MC 5-1-2012
    BFP #3: 7-19-2012, DS born 3-27-2013
    BFP #4: 9-13-2014, MMC discovered 10-27-14 at 10w, d&c on 11-6-14

  • We're going to put a few of the bigger, gender neutral items together early next month, since I have a family of avid Black Friday shoppers. We'll start adding items that are smaller and/or gender specific after we know the sex.

  • I started but kept it to gender-neutral essentials.  Things like bottles, baby shampoo, and diapers.  I will continue to add to it as time moves on.

  • I started mine last week, I figured i'd tweak it as I go along.

SO SMART!  I never really understood why moms won't register until they know the gender.  Wouldn't you want your gear to have legs for future children?  Outside of a little bit of nursery decor and baby clothes (which I would never recommend registering for, because people will then only buy you clothes b/c they are so cute and you'll have tons of newborn clothes baby grows out of in 3 weeks, and then you have to go out and buy all the real baby necessities on your own), does knowing the gender make any difference in purchasing new baby gear?

  • I won't do a registry unless I have a shower. Nobody has offered so as of now I'm not doing one. If I get an offer, I will most likely do it ASAP.

  • I don't think it's ever too early, especially if you are going team green.  You can always change some things -- tweak the list -- as you research more.  It'd be a fun thing for you and your friend to do together!

  • I started a registry on Amazon, because I can add things from any website to it.. I mainly started it because I wanted to be able to add things as I thought of it, and not forget what I wanted.  When I am ready I can just go ahead and make the list public.  I don't need any clothes for the baby (unless we have a girl).  I do have a lot of neutral things.  I have a lot of books that I have on the list.

  • I did most of ours this past weekend using www.lucieslist.com (which someone on here recommended and I love).  I also finally got my copy of baby bargains and have started reading that and will adjust my Amazon registry accordingly.  I didn't put any gender specific items in there, other than some burp cloths and I just chose a neutral one.

  • We will probably start mid to late November.  Some of our families are already upset we haven't started since they want to buy the baby stuff for Christmas.

  • I started one online a few weeks ago.  Embarrassed

I wasn't even expecting a shower as this is my second but my aunt was insisting we do something, so I gave in.  Then I got excited and added a few things that I know we need.

  • I started mine a few weeks ago mainly so I can keep track of the things I need more than as a gift registry.  When I remeber I need something I add to it.  It's really easy to change if you can access it online.

  • Hi all,

Just curious. How do you make a registry private (does anyone know if that's an option through Target or Diapers.com)? I would love to start registering but we're only 11 weeks along and haven't told anyone (including family, I'm being probably overly cautious) yet. I know as soon as we do tell, they're going to want lists for Christmas purposes.

    Thanks!!
