Infant/Children's Ibuprofen/Advil

I know there was a recent post about this but I can't find it....

Didn't someone say that children's form of these are ok and much cheaper? And how did the dosage compare? DS is getting at least 4 teeth right now and I feel like we are spending so much money on infant ibuprofen that I was looking for an alternative. Thanks in advance!!

Re: Infant/Children's Ibuprofen/Advil

  • I asked the pharmacist and they said that it was the same dosage. For my DD it is 5mg. The only difference is the kids doesn't come with a syringe, it comes with a cup. It is cheaper.
  • Loading the player...
  • We use the children's but I have the dosage hanging on the fridge at home, according to DD's weight. Sorry I'm not help there.
  • The infant's should be 40 mg/ml while the children's should be 100mg/5ml (20mg/ml). If you want to use the children's ibuprofen just make sure you are giving the correct mg dose. If you need a dosing syringe the pharmacy probably can give you one that they give out for liquid prescription meds.
  • Thanks guys!! I went ahead and ordered it. I'll double check dosage with our doctor at DS's one year appointment. We have enough infant to get us till then!

The Children's is less concentrated, so you need to give more medicine for the same dose.  For DD for example it's 2.5mL of Infant advil but 5mL of Children's.  Given how hard it is to get her to take it, we're sticking with the infant for now.

And yes, the Children's doesn't come with a syringe, but you can always use an old syringe from an Infant bottle if your LO isn't ready to take medicine out of a cup.

    Exactly.

We buy target brand and I got a 2 pack for around $8 the other day.

I'm being lazy and ordering on Amazon. I got a three pack of 4 oz bottles of Advil for $14. And it will be on my doorstep in 2 days, and I didn't go to target and spend an extra $100. My husband will be proud!!
