Odd Dr. Apt Schedule

Is anyone else on an odd Dr apt schedule??

I had gone for an ultrasound at expected 8 wks, and found out I was only 6 wks, so I kept my regular apt for 4 weeks out and have been going at 10, 14, 18 weeks...

Anyone else on a goofy 4 week schedule (instead of what I see as the normal 8, 12, 16, 20 wks)?

  • When I had my first ultrasound the dr found out I was only 8 weeks instead of 10.  I go back every 3 weeks instead of 4.   Go figure.

  • I see an OBGYN and a specialist, each of them every 4 weeks. So I go 2 weeks without visits, then my specialist the next week, and then my OB the next. I feel like I'm always at the doctor's office lol.

  • I'm on a wacky schedule, too, but that's because spot checks (my appointments for constipation and a UTI) on my blood pressure, weight, and baby's HB showed everything to be fine.

I went in a 7w6d (clerical error-- I was supposed to be 11 weeks), then had an appointment scheduled for 15 weeks. I went in for a UTI two weeks ago, and they found baby's HB, so they pushed my appointment back to 17w.

  • The earliest my office sees you is 10 weeks, and I've been going about every 4 weeks (based on availability) since.

Why every 3 weeks? Going in at 8 weeks for your first appt. would have put you on the "ideal" schedule. 8 wks, 12 wks, 16wks, 20wks, 24wks, 28wks, etc. They call this the "ideal" schedule because you go in right on target for most tests. IE: they prefer to do the a/s at 20 wks, the GTT at 28 weeks, etc.

OP- I've had wonky appt. schedules with a few of my previous pregnancies. Usually off the "ideal" target by a week or two. It wasn't a big deal. (except it drove my OCD BSC, lol) My midwife said most tests have room for a 1-2 week leeway. The only thing I had to go back for before the 4wk period was up was my a/s because the u/s tech at my practice doesn't do them until 20 wks.

This time I am right on target, having my 1st appt. and 8wks and going in every 4wks, which makes the OCD happy.. LOL.

  • I just go every 4 weeks. At my next appt I will be 19 weeks. My first appt I think I was 6 weeks and 3 days. I am not sure it really matters. My OB is busy and so am I and DH has been coming to appointments, so if I tried for a "perfect" schedule, I would go nuts.

I'm on the same schedule because my first OB appointment was at 6 weeks.

  • There isnt really a "standard" schedule, other than every 4 weeks.  Nothing "goofy" about when you're going in.

  • My first appt was at 8 weeks and it's been every 4 weeks since. I opted to have my A/S this Friday instead of waiting until my 20 week appt next week but my OB was fine doing them the same day, but then I would have been going at 19, 23, 27 etc. The thought of it bugged me (I'm a little crazy, I know) so I will got this week for the A/S and next week for the 20 week. If your doctor was concerned I'm sure they'd bring it up, chances are when they see you they just write on your chart "see in 4 weeks" and the scheduler picks a day 4 weeks away. My doctor wrote "see in 3 weeks" to try and combine my 20 week and A/S and I asked if we could push one and the scheduler refused and made me book my 20 week even earlier so I would have been right at 19 weeks. I called my nurse the next week and she moved the appointment and laughed at the unwillingness of the scheduler to change the day. Everyone has a job to do I guess!

Same here... there isn't really an accross the board standard for when the first prenatal appt is, so I don't think there's a particular schedule for check ups.  Some practices switch to every two weeks instead of four earlier and later too.

  • sort of, but that's because very time I go in baby measures bigger than they expect him to be... go figure

  • its not uncommon at all. With my first OB I had that delivered my first child, I went in a 9 weeks, 13, 17, 21 and so on. This time around I have a different OB and have gone in at 7 weeks, 11, 15, 19, and my next one will be at 23 weeks. It all just depends on when they like to start seeing you. A week or 2 difference isn't uncommon.

  • I go whenever I have time in between teaching and when she has openings. No specific schedule, just 3-5 weeks between each visit. I had an appt on Monday just shy of 25 weeks, my next on is in three weeks for a GD test because we're moving in four weeks.

  • I know it's not a huge deal but I am a bit OCD too and it just seems "off" to me - not that my Dr's office thinks there is anything weird about it... just me. Glad to see I am not the only one on a goofy timing! Though I do agree with PP that all of the tests and checkpoints seem to happen on the 12, 16, 20, 24, 28 weeks periods.

  • I didn't see my doctor for the first time until I was 10 weeks. Then I went again at 13 weeks, because she wanted to see me sooner rather than later. I was supposed to have my anatomy scan at 18 weeks, but she wanted me back for blood work 4 weeks after my last appointment... so now I have blood work at 17 weeks and my anatomy scan at 19 weeks.

  • I am about 2 weeks off on my appointments too.  For example - I just had my 24 week appointment (6 months) at 26 weeks...

  • My OB doesn't seem to go by any type of schedule. I had the standard 8 week visit. I was only 1 day off from what we thought I was (8w1d instead of exactly 8weeks). Then he had me back in 4 weeks. Then 3 weeks. Then 4 weeks. My last appointment was at 23 weeks and the next was scheduled for 26 weeks b/c he wanted to reweigh me. I made the mistake of wearing my cowboy boots, cords, and a heavy sweater (it was rainy and cold!), so it looked like I had gained 11 pounds when total before that visit was 4.4!
