For moms who are sleep training or letting their LO cio, how long is long enough to where you feel you need to intervene? I know you keep checking on them and try to soothe them before you leave the room again but how long until you feel like they have tried long enough to put themselves to sleep? Also if they do fall asleep but then wake up only a few minutes later do you let them cry again and start the process all over? TIA
Re: CIO/sleep training
this for me too...
it all depends on the cry...
LO is 4 month old and this is what we do. I go in when he gets really upset and it turns to real crying. If he is just fussing I let him fuss in hopes that he learns to put himself to sleep eventually. It works sometimes.
Both of my boys also had to fuss it out to fall asleep. Nothing I could do to intervene in that process once they got to 4 months old or so. My oldest is a champ sleeper and always had been. As a baby he always had to get the grumpies out before bed.
In your situation I would totally let him fuss. Also I find when I go back in if I can avoid picking him up out of the crib it normally goes better. Picking him up resets the process. Sometimes I just go in and patt his butt to soothe him.
First, you might want to read some literature on what type of sleep training you want to do; there are tons. They will walk you through most of your questions. We did SleepEasy Solution. Lo cried 28 minutes the first night and 43 the first nap; but he was able to put himself back to sleep right away. If he's doing his fussy cry, I let him be; but if he's doing his in pain or need something cry, I get him. He still fusses for about 2 minutes before sleeping, but now he sleeps on average about 10 hours.
Yes I am going to speak with my paediatrician and see what she recommends
