City Mini, UppaBaby Cruz or City Versa?

Hi all,

We're deciding between these three strollers.  We live in the burbs, drive small cars (Honda Civic and Honda Fit).  We're looking for something for neighborhood walks, errands, some longer urban/suburban outings...nothing much more all-terrain than the farmer's market.

We'd get the carseat adapter for whatever we get (we have a Chicco).  I like the parent-facing option of the Cruz and Versa, but that the City Mini is lightweight.  We have a $500 budget, so the lighter weight Bugaboo Bee is not an option.

 Thoughts? TIA!

  • We have and lie the city mini. It's been 18 months of easy one hand closing!

  • choice between the 3 with your budget? The versa. For sure. It's also one hand folding and looks SUUUUUPER cool. Only prob I have with it is that the select is $50 more and you can convert to a double when/if you have a second. I personally bought the select for that reason. It is not a single handed fold, but the truth is I haven't ever found that to be a problem. The 5 extra seconds it takes me to fold it is like whatevs. But if you want a single that does not have the possibility to be a double, the versa's your stroller ;)

I second the Versa. We were waiting for it to be released (march) and found out it might be fall before it was released here. I ended up with my second pick, the Phil and Ted's Smart, and I love it, but there are features, like the recline and parent face (without buying an adaptor) that I really liked and didn't get. I also like the Versa over the City Select, it has a smaller footprint folded and open, and like the Mini, the seat is slightly larger and will fit a taller child.
  • I just purchased an Uppababy Cruz, and I love it. The fold is much better on the city mini, but I was willing to give that up for the features and look of the cruz. I wasn't sure at first, but I am glad I did! Really it just comes down to how important the fold is to you. But my vote is for UB!

  • there are some good videos on youtube of the 3
  • Thanks all!  We went with the CityMini, but now I'm feeling unsure :(

The Cruz seemed to take up a lot of space in the trunk...and it seemed like the fold always ended with us on the ground with it.  Is there an easier way to do this?  Do you get used to it?

We loved the Versa, but it was just so heavy, and we're both small people.  I had a hard time lifting it up into the trunk.

The weight was really the major factor in our decision, but now I'm second guessing myself.

How often and how long do you use the parent-facing seat?  I worried we'll regret not having this option...and also like the hand-breaks, larger basket, and adjustable footrest of the Versa.

I was sort of hoping we'd get away with just one stroller, but maybe we should have gotten the Versa now with the option of a lighter weight umbrella stroller down the line.  Thoughts?

  • We were deciding between the UppaBaby Cruz and the City Mini as well.  Cruz won out for several reasons:  We like that we can change the direction of the seat; We like the recline much better than the pull cord on the city mini;  Cruz just feels more solid;  The basket on the Cruz is tremendous, while the City Mini basket is useless because it is so minute.

  • As far as the fold on the Cruz goes... I thought it was pretty awkward at first. I did realize that if I put the brake on before I fold it, that it is much easier. If the brake isn't on, I feel like it rolls away from me and I struggle not to let it lay on the ground. So as long as the brake is on, I can grab it as it comes to me and hold it up. The told definitely isn't perfect, but I have yet to find a stroller that doesn't have a flaw. It just depends on your needs and how important that is. This is my third baby, and fifth stroller.. and this is my favorite! I also have an inglesina zippy and a macclaren for when I need a smaller stroller for certain trips, or more space in my trunk.

  • do you find the ride on the cruz is a lot bumpier due to the smaller tires?
