Anyone else feel like Gumby?

I feel like Gumby. I am being stretched and pulled in 100 different directions and I feel like I have no time to breathe or get caught up on anything. DS and I moved back to WI to be closer to my family (yeah!) in August and lived with my parents until DH got here last weekend. Then we moved into our apartment. I also started a new teaching job and although this is my 5th year teaching, I feel brand new with being in a new district, with new expectations and standards. I am a VERY organized person...to the point of OCD with some things, but I feel like I'm more unorganized than I ever have been in my life. My apartment is a disaster, my classroom is unorganized, and I have a to do list a mile long in both places. This would be stressful if it was just me, but with DS who is crawling and pulling up everywhere, it's crazy! I made sure his room was done so he could play in it, but then it's hard to get anything else done. There's so much to do that I don't want to do anything...if that makes sense.

I guess I'm really just venting (when I should be unpacking!) but I'm hoping that I'm not the only one feeling like I'm being pulled in a million different directions and still getting nothing done! :)

Re: Anyone else feel like Gumby?

  • ALL THE TIME!! Yes, this is me. I'm running a mile a minute but getting nothing done. It's very frustrating. I started to lose control when I had child number two or when we moved from a one story to a two story house ( she was 4 months old). Then when she was 15 months I started working again and then things got crazier. As time goes on it just gets worse.

  • Nope, definitely not the only one! We sold our house and moved in with MIL when DD was 3 months old. Then moved into our new house in the beginning of August. Ever since then it has been nonstop unpacking, cleaning, and organizing on top of working full time. Luckily, thanks to my mom and MIL, we are finally unpacked and settled in. Now if only I could get caught up at work... Do you have a family member that could come watch your LO for a few hours so you could get something done either at home or at school? I know as a working mom, the last thing you want to do is give up anymore time with LO than you have to but it does help with getting stuff done. At least it did for me.

Hugs. Its not easy trying to get everything in and still feel like you have some control over anything.

  • This is me exactly! Except I'm still on mat leave and we didn't move. Everything else you described is to a T!

ETA: We are still renovating our fixer upper we bought two years ago and that is what makes it really crazy! We don't even have a bathtub. Insert sad face.
