CIO Consistancy

So, I've been trying CIO. We started and it worked well for about 2 nights. Then the third night I was going to try it, but Gabriel was sick. I let him cry and went in to a snot covered baby who had thrown up some mucus. So I quit for a while.

We started again. At night time things go well. However,  for naps Gabriel plays in there the entire time. The second I pick him up to stop and try again later he is asleep. So, is it a problem to sleep train at night and still rock at nap time. Or is this sending mixed messages? How do you CIO mama's deal with naps and consistency?

Re: CIO Consistancy

  • The sleep consultant I went to and the Weisbluth book say its ok to do different methods for day and night sleep, as long as you're consistent with each one (ie. the same things always at night, and the same things done for naps, even though day and night routines may be different). I'm struggling with naps too though! I'm wondering at what point you give up the consistency and try something new... Since I've been consistent for over a week and we've gotten nowhere...

  • We started CIO on Friday because nothing else was working anymore. She has always been better about bedtime than naptime. What I do is rock her like I always have for around 10 minutes or so at the most and then put her down no matter if it's a nap or nighttime. She's still a lot better about going down at bedtime, last night she didn't cry at all when I put her in the crib. But today's first nap she cried for under 10 minutes. When we first started she was crying for 50 minutes straight for naptime so we have made HUGE progress in just this many days already. Keep it up but be consistent.
