2nd Trimester

Which is more of a lifesaver?

So I'm wondering what is more of a lifesaver in terms of being able to put the baby down for a few because I've heard great things about both.

If you had to pick one would you choose:

1) Baby bouncy seat

2) Baby swing

I know every baby is different but I'm just trying to prioritize ;) Thanks!

  • Bouncer.  DS was just eh in the swing and I've heard soooo many people say their kid hated the swing but it seems like *most* like the bouncer seat.

  • My son loved the swing. It was our life saver. That being said the bouncy seat is way more convenient for the shower or if you just want lo near when you're doing something. Its just more portable. But you're right every baby is different. Yours could hate one or both or neither! Babies!

  • I'm a FTM, but my sister and SIL each have 2 kids and never used a baby swing, so I'd have to say bouncer.

  • With DD we thought we would get a bouncer because it would be less expensive and we wouldn't need a swing.  Well after our first night home, DH went out to buy a swing.   I agree with swing.  Although both were useful.

  • my DS loved his swing. He napped in it everyday from the day we came home until he was too big for it.

  • Swing for both my girls

Also not on your list - the Rock N Play sleeper. It has a similar recline to the bouncer, so DD2 loved to sit in it and look around, and she also napped really well in it.

  • Not to throw one more thing out there but you might wanna consider a Rock n Play in there too. It's not as much of an activity seat like the other 2 can be but it's sorta in the same category and if your kid likes to sleep inclined, it's supposedly a safer option than the swing (though my son slept in the swing often).

  • This seems to be one of those things that varies kid to kid. We didn't get a swing because we live in a condo and just don't have the room. It would have been nice (maybe, if my kid liked the swing) but we did fine with the bouncer.
  • Tough call..Swing was a lifesaver for naps until at least 5 months old and the bouncy seat was the only way I could get a shower for at least that long.  I say hit up consignment shops and garage sales and get both!!

  • One kid loved the swing and hated the bouncy seat; the other kid loved the bouncy seat and hated the swing! It really is hard to know! Luckily I had a graco swing where the chair of the swing came off and became the bouncy seat, so I had both regardless! No idea if they still make that model (going back 5+ years now) but it was great!

  • That is tough because all babies are so different.  We had both and the bouncer was amazing - I let DD chill in there while I dozed off for a few extra minutes or took a shower.  She didn't care much for the swing, but lots of babies LOVE the swing.  If you have the space and money, I say get both.  Otherwise, I like the fact that the bouncer is smaller and more portable, so I could bring LO with me into the bathroom or wherever to keep an eye on her.

  • Swing for sure!

  • Swing! It took DS a while to get used to it, but after that it was a lifesaver.  For a while it was the only way I could get more than 30 minutes of sleep.  And when he had the flu it was the only place he could lay down and be rocked without throwing everything up.

I thought the bouncer was pretty useless.  It had a vibrate setting that was barely strong enough to feel and if the baby doesn't propel himself you still have to do the bouncing with your foot.  So yes the bouncer is portable, but it can be a lot more work.  The swing was always the one where I could set DS down and walk away for a few minutes.

  • DS hated the swing so I vote bouncy.  Plus the bouncy is easy to transport.  Maybe compromise and get one of the bouncies that swing/move but are able to be moved from room to room....

  • I vote bouncer! DS would only sleep in his the first few weeks. It took him a while to like the swing.

  • Swing gets my vote. Although it only really "worked" to calm DD for 2 months or so, SO glad we borrowed instead of bought! Maybe borrow if you can? Some babies absolutely love the swing, but some don't. It's an awful lot of money if your LO ends up not enjoying it.

  • It really depends on the baby.  DS hated the regular swing but loved the soothing station swing that swung on a smooth arc instead of back and forth.  It was also great to be able to remove the seat from the base and use as a seat in the kitchen or wherever I was trying to be productive.
Lilypie Pregnancy tickers Lilypie Third Birthday tickers imageimage
  • DD LOVED both of these!  However, if I had to choose one over the other...it would definitely be the bouncer.  Reason being is that it's so much more portable!  I brought that thing into the bathroom with me while I showered, in the kitchen while I cooked/did dishes, on weekend trips (driving of course), etc.  Whereas, the swing was a permanent fixture in our living room and used only when we were in the living room (which was often), and I imagine it will be this time too since that is where all of DD's toys are.

I live in a three level townhome, so the bouncer was carried up and down the stairs countless times during the day.  If DS likes the bouncer just as much, I may go out and buy another one so I don't have to move it from one place to another all the time.  I'll just leave one upstairs and one downstairs.

(I might also consider a rock-n-play instead of a 2nd bouncer....as I have heard great things about that, too.)

  • My daughter didn't enjoy either. So I didn't get any life-saving moments from them at all. lol. I did have the vibrating papasan chair (it was a long time ago) that I could sit her in when I needed to do stuff, but she still didn't like sitting in it.

  • Bouncy seat.  It's easy to move wherever you need it.  DD liked the swing, but loved the bouncy seat.  She still likes to play in it and she's 2.  I think there may be some jealousy over having to share the bouncy seat when the new baby arrives.

  • Bouncy sea- one with a vibration setting.  I could move it wherever I needed while DS was still sleeping and not wake him.  But, I do like having a swing too.  I'd try to get both or borrow one from a friend.

Also, I see that you've gone and re-edited your siggy to include your blog link again after the bumpgodz took that out today.

    Sincerely,

    Empire

She's been reported several times and absolutely refuses to take it down.

    https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/69181654.aspx

she took it upon herself to just pop it back in there. She may own her site, but not this one. I think she has misinterpreted the TOU to be what she wants and not what it is.

BTW Ladies, I haven't done anything to my sig! I never got a message from Bump and if someone took it out I certainly didn't put it back in.  Like I said, when I'm told via email or something or private message by the bump to take it i totally will. I'm not trying to break rules, I just don't think this is breaking one because it's a personal blog. I don't make money from you visiting it or amazon so relax people jeez.

  • We had both.  I great swing that DD used for the first 4 months or so and a bouncer that she used for even less.  The swing was over $100 and the bouncer was maybe $35.  If I had to choose one I would say swing.
Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • No help here - both... the only thing DD would sleep in for three months was her swing, and when she would get constipated the vibration from her bouncer would help work up a BM... In fact this time I bought a bounced that bounces (not vibrates) and I'm almost worried that we might have to buy another bouncer that vibrates...

  • DD hated the swing, so I'd have to say bouncer but really every baby is different.

  • Neither, the Rock n Play

However, if I would have to choose between the two options, I would have to say the bouncy seat.  It is portable and cheaper. We spent a fortune on a swing DS never liked.
