Adorable! We have been spoon feeding but just over the last week I have been offering LO mashed bits to try himself (I know not really BLW) but I could use some help! We've tried bananas, peas, and avacado, and all 3 were pretty much flops. I think he just may not be ready to move from purees yet. Any advice?

Is he not interested or can he not get it to his mouth? It's recommended to give foods cut in longish stick shapes since babies this age don't have the pincer gasp required to pick up small pieces. Some just aren't into food until they're a bit older either A lot of BLW is letting them get used to the textures and stuff too just playing with it. I happen to have had 2 kids who were banging down the door to feed themselves and consumed quite a bit right from the start.
We've only tried mashed foods so far, once he gets them to his mouth, they come right back out (even if I make chunkier purees and spoon feed, they come out too). So I think he just may not be able to handle the chunks yet! I will definately try sticks though, that makes sense for them. In the meantime, he seems to be having fun squishing everything between his fingers!
so cute- he's awesome at it! we tried avocado and bananas and they were both too slippery that they squished out by the time they got to his mouth then he was frustrated and cried
Love it!! BLW has been successful for you, then? I've been going back and forth about it.
We love it and it has worked great with both our kids. DD gagged a lot at the start, but she loved feeding herself and she learned fast. DS has been trying to eat anything he can get his hands on for awhile, so I think he's just excited some of it is edible now lol. We haven't seen as much gagging from him, but we've only done a few meals so far.
Re: BLW pics, the first 2 amused me tonight

Oh my goodness how cute!! Does he gag on stuff at all? the gagging freaks me out a bit even though I know it's natural.
I've been finding bits of sweet potato in Matilda's diapers, so I guess she did ingest some after all!
