New stage = mommy not happy

Hi everyone - please tell me this is also happening to someone else. As of a couple of weeks ago, DS just doesn't respond to our questions or requests. I find myself repeating things to him five times before he actually bothers to look up from what he's doing and answer me. I've been telling him that it's not polite and tell him that he at least needs to tell me to "hold on" or have some sort of a reaction. I've also tried not responding to him when he asks me stuff - to which he gets SUPER upset but then does the same thing to me...

Any advice? This must be the most annoying thing that he's done in his "whole life" :)

  • I would say his name one time, say what you have to say to him and give him a chance to respond.  If he does, praise and thank him for listening.  If he doesn't, walk to him him calmly, take him by the hand and lead him to a listening spot.  Get down and tell him he needs to respond the first time or he will come to the listening spot to hear you and what you said was...  That will get old  quick.  And he'll fight, maybe even tantrum, wait him out until he is calm enough to receive the initial message.

I would also be sure that not every one of your messages to him is an instruction or complaint.  Occasionally show him something silly,  occasionally call his name and when he looks at you just say "I love you!  Or burst into song.

Excellent advice that I will try to follow.  I tend to find myself repeating myself over and over and it's not fun for any of us.
