Ugh, cant sleep. Cold is kicking in. Natural rememdies?

I was hoping to avoid getting a cold but yesterday afternoon it started. Scratchy, dripping throat and congestion. Any natural suggestions besides steam and salt water?  Up half night, and have a toddler I have to tend to and I know I am going to be tired.

  • Pump the Vitamin C, get lots of rest when you can, push the fluids.  You can try the netti pot for congestion and hot tea with honey always works well for a sore, scratchy throat.

    I also suggest making a bone broth for dinner.  That always seems to make me feel better.

  • I went as long as I could with vicks vaporub (which eventually I couldn't even get into my sinuses because they got so stuffed), keeping a bottle of honey by the bed, I kept coconut oil on my nose to prevent chapping, and saline nose spray. By day 3, I was SO miserable, I started in on the sudafed. I'm really glad I did, I was starting to get a sinus infection and it definitely helped to break up the gunk. Make sure you stay super hydrated - mucus is dehydrating! Hot showers, cough drops, honey, tea, etc etc... feel better <3

  • I felt like that last Saturday so I called on my crunchy, hippie friend for help. She said: Smoothie made with 1" chunk of ginger, a couple of lemon slices (with the peel if your blender can handle it), a spoonful of honey and 1 to 2 cups of near boiling water. Instant relief and a huge immune system boost.It is sortable like Theraflu but not quite as gross. I drank it once a day and got better faster than I would have without it.

  • This is me last night/today. I just tried the neti pot... not a miracle worker, but definitely helpful. Also, as PPs said, vitamin C and fluids! Steamy hot showers also help my airway. Good luck and hope you feel better!
