Babies: 9 - 12 Months

If I had a girl

I would ban all things Disney Princess.

When Hailey, our 4 yo niece was living with us for 7 months I grew to despise these bitttches.  Some farking idiot gave her fukkkking refrigerator magnet princesses with all their GD accessories to go with.  It was a hot mess.  The shoes, the flowers, the purses, the earring!!!  Blech.  Blech.  Blech, I say.

Re: If I had a girl

  • Princesses have already been banned in our house.  It's such a marketing gimic and EVERYTHING is available in Disney Princess.  I hate it.  Luckily (my) Hailey doesn't care at this point.  Once she's older, I might have to un-do the ban if she protests too much.

  • We're decorating DD's future "big girl room" in Disney Princesses. :( I think that's the ultimate girly decor! But I myself am a definite "girly girl". To each their own!

    ?

P.S. Have pity on DD if she herself despites Disney Pricinesses and is submerged in them. ;-)?

  • I have a girl and have banned all things that say "Princess" on clothing.

    ((gagging))

  • Its impossible to ban. I'm not a fan of disney but I figure if I dress up like Cinderella enough, she'll hate it.

I plan on coming to school dressed up like a big fat old cinderella enough to knock it out of her. Oooh or Ariel, that would do it.

"whose the weird mom in the seashell bikini with the stretch marks and cellulite out front?"

  • I personally hate all the Bratz stuff too.  That would be banned in my house
  • I have no problem with princess stuff.

What I have a problem with is teaching the child that they *are* a princess and the attitude that goes along with it.  My niece is big into princess stuff, but she knows it's all a fairy tale and not true.  Her BFF is the opposite. She thinks she *is* a princess and is therefore better than everyone else.

I also loathe the new BibbityBobbity Botique in Disney.  They put loads of make up and glitter on little girls and make them look almost trashy, imo.  That's too extreme for me.

If Scarlett wants a Sleeping Bueauty dress for dress up, I am ok with that.  The second she thinks that she starts getting the princess attitude, we'll have issues.

  • I don't get princess love.

However, I loathe bratz with everything in me. The first time i saw a bedazzled baby bratz with a low rise sparkle diaper and a belly top with a bling bling soother & makeup, I fell to my knees and started praying to feminists everywhere to make it stop.

  • Oh dear Lord, the Bratz.  I forgot about those.

I don't think I would ban all things "princess" just the marketed Disney Princess crap.  And I love me some Disney, I do, but damn, that crap is EVERYWHERE.

  • I don't take issue with the entire princess thing, just the marketing madness. I dressed like a princess a lot, played barbies, liked pink and turned out just fine.

I just also find them tacky as decor. The movies are cute enough, we'd get those. But the pillows & alarm clocks, and all that junk = gross.

  • wait, Lanie, this isn't acceptable?

i thought low rise diapers were "in" now?

  • OMG. I just found this. A Bratz push up bra.

  • Agreed. I would also ban all things Barbie.

    Bwahahaha.  I PPH you

  • For as much of a girly girl priss I am now, I was so not this way as a child.  I despised Barbie, mainly because her damn shoes never stayed on and her hair was always a mess, and I played with toy dump trucks and geckos most of my young life.  Odd.

And, holy shittt, a push up tranier?!

  • Yeah, princesses I have no real problem with in moderation, but I cannot stand that Bratz bs. It's like yay lets buy a trashy doll so my DD can ask for "juicy" pants on her 4th bday :D who the hell thought this stuff up? Enough people had issue w/ Barbie and compared to brats she's the mother theresa of dolls!

Ah...such a fun way to teach your little angel how to become a hoochie!

...I thought lanie was making a joke.  I'm horrified to see this. Jebus fing christ.

I'm not getting oliver any brats dolls for sure!  And I wont get them for any future children either. Yes people, lets encourage our children to be brats. That's the way...

    Ho.Ly.Crap.

I'm totally anti-Disney Princesses and Bratz. Ugh, I hate those things. I agree with Lanie though - there's a difference between playing Cinderella or Snow White and the whole Princess "sorority" thing they've started. My 4 year old niece loves them - her bedroom, closet and toy box is nothing but Princess merchandise.

  • BratZ LOTR, BratZ, with a Z. Z makes them coool.

You might want to change Oliver's name? To Olyvyrz.

  • All little girls go through a princess phase. It's perfectly fine in moderation.

  • All little girls do not go through a princess phase.  I went through a transformers, BMX bike, and other "boy stuff" phase because I wanted what my older cousin had.  Not saying that it won't be OK for DD to go through a princess phase - just saying it does not happen to everyone.
  • I couldn't put a ban on Princess stuff in my house, but just in moderation.  I'm a big Disney freak, so it's hard to ban it all.  However, I HATE the Bratz crap.

What little girl doesn't? I actually went through the princess phase then at 12 I did BMX for 4 years. Most little girls do.

  • Most little girls go through this phase because it is practically forced upon them.

I don't think its natural at all. Its nurtured.

I'm okay with princesses in moderation. But I will burn any Bratz item that finds its way into my home.

I would DEFINITELY rather give a little girl a Disney Princess than anything at all Bratz. Bratz are repulsive and evil, sexualizing, and place an emphasis on appearance at all cost. The message behind each and every Disney princess movie is that what you do and how you treat others is the most important thing. My 5yo niece loves princesses.

On a similar note, I think that Baby Phat clothes on a little girl should be illegal and punishable by being flogged with some of Russell Simmons bling.

I didn't.  I'm not saying its a big deal or anything, and I'm not arguing that its not common.  But, in general, I do think that sometimes if we don't question society's expecation of gender roles we are selling ourselves and our daughters short.  Again, not saying that the princess thing is that big of a deal, just making a general comment.

  • Good news for the BRATZ haters (myself included).  After the holidays they will no longer be available.
