Re: Hospital Bagst

  • I have not packed yet but have been thinking about it lately, Pinterest had some great list ideas.

These are just some links I found. Hope it helps!

  • I have packed mine and this is what is in it:

2 nightgowns with buttons from the waist up

    3 nursing bras (2 sleep, 1 regular)

comfy pj pants--biggest ones I own

    a plain white tee

2 nursing tanks- very soft cotton

    robe

    fuzzy socks

travel sized shampoo, conditioner, face wash, contact solution, body wash and poof, lotion, toothbrush and toothpaste, deoderant, chapstick, clips for hair and bobby pins, hand sanitizer

    breast pads + lanolin

maxi pads--overnights with wings: Always infinity ultra thin

**I plan on packing leggings, tunic and uggs for the ride home, cell phone charger, camera + charger, i pod, glasses and snack bag with candy and snacks for dh, underwear (an extra size up and 4 pairs)

**We carry our insurance cards on us and we are preregistered at the hospital already so it shouldn't be an issue.  I typed up a birth plan and dh knows it front to back so that there is no mistaking what I would like if I can't somehow tell him.

DH will have a separate bag with his own clothes and LO has his diaper bag packed already too.

Feel free to let me know if I missed anything any s+tms think I should add!

  • Great list nk!  I've also heard that you may want to byop (bring your own pillow) since the hospital ones are pathetic.  Just make sure it is NOT in a white pillowcase.  You want something colorful so it won't get confused with a hospital one.

  • I didn't pack one yet, but I know what I'll grab based only on what I used last time (when I WAY overpacked!).

nursing tanks, zip up sweatshirts (2), pj pants that I don't care about (in case i 'leak' on them) slippers/non-skid socks, underwear, phone charger, sudoku book, pen and paper, pillow, boppy, nipple cream, and a few personal products (tooth brush/paste, brush, make up, face wipes, lotion, Chapstick, eyc.).

while I was there last time I wore their gowns for the most part (over my nursing tank) and used the mesh underwear and pads they provided. They also had towels, shampoo/conditioner and soap for a shower. These are things I asked about at the hospital tour, so you may want to check with yours to see what they provide so you can avoid taking a ton of extra stuff.

  • Not packed yet and won't pack for a while yet. You really don't need all that much (like nail clippers, diapers, wipes or any of that or the belly bandit - you won't be able to or really want to wear it for a couple days anyways). I'm going to use the mesh underwear from the hospital (no sense wrecking my own and will snag a few extra pairs for my first week home too) and their pads too. They also provide Lansinoh lanolin (a MUST if BF'ing). Here's what's going in mine for baby #4:

-Camera with flash, lenses & memory cards (I'm a photographer, so my camera is very important for me to grab!) & video camera

    -Nursing gown for after delivery

    -Slippers

-Cozy socks (3 pairs - wrecked two pairs with DS #3: one pair during delivery and one pair the first time I went to go to the bathroom)

-Soft Cup Nursing Bra (will wear sleep style nursing one during delivery cause I can't stand going bra-less, but know the one I wear during delivery will be sweaty and they want you to try to nurse right away)

-Good smelling shampoo, conditioner, shower soap & lotion, my own toothbrush & tooth paste (the stuff at the hospital is gross)

-Hairbrush, detangler spray (I have thick hair), pony tail holders/bobby pins/headbands to keep hair out of my face

-CHAP STICK - a MUST! Lips get very dry during labor

-Makeup - just the basics (mineral powder and a little eye shadow) since there will be photos of me taken and I know from past babies that my face gets super splochy after labor

    -Boppy Pillow

-1 footless, elastic bottom gown for LO with fold over hands & socks (all they provide in the hospital is a huge snap shirt that my DS drowned in and drove me nuts and the socks they had wouldn't stay on, so I'm bringing my own this time)

-1 coming home outfit (footed pants, onesie, LS top with fold over hands, socks, hat, thin fleece one-piece to wear over, receiving blanket and fleece blanket - it's COLD here already!)

    -Car seat with winter cover

-Yoga pants and a LS top to wear home

-Nursing pads for in my bra - I hate the ones at the hospital

-Kindle Fire (with the latest Stephanie Plum book downloaded), iPod, Laptop & Cell Phone. I hate hospitals, so these will help me from going crazy there, especially at night once DH goes home with the kids. I don't sleep well in the hospital no matter how tired I am, so I know that at 2am, baby will be snoozing and I'll be bored out of my mind and wide awake.  Plus, I can pick up my WiFi from my house in the maternity ward!

Also, we only live a block from the hospital, so if I want something else, it'll take DH a whole 10 minutes to run home and get it. I just don't trust him enough to grab all the right things to not pack what I really want for sure!

  • Great lists everyone.  I'm in the process of packing mine and I'm still looking for more comfy pants, a cheap robe (mine is bright pink with monkeys and I don't think I really want a crazy robe in lots of pictures for years to come), fuzzy socks with the non skid bottom (thoses things are slippery and I can only find the ones without the nonskid). Any suggestions regarding cheap places to shop for these things. My problem, particularly with the comfy pants is that I keep taking them out of my hospital pile because I have been going through a lot of pairs.

Walmart.com has robes starting at like $8 or something.... perfect for this situation!

  • To add to your list I would suggest pens/paper/notebook! I also bring a stack of thank you notes. I had some fabulous nurses/LC that I wrote thank you's to before I left.

Great suggestion - I hadn't planned to bring my pillow, but wanted it in the car when I was laboring.  I was SO GLAD to have it for sleeping in the hospital!

I also got some cheap fuzzy socks with the non-skid dots on the bottom at Walmart.

  • well don't I feel like a slacker!  I haven't packed anything

I did read somewhere someone suggested packing 2 separate bags, one for PP and one for L&D so that you can send stuff home wtih DH or family members as you don't need it anymore.  Anyone with experience agree or is that more of a hassle?

    Jan 15  NOV siggy challenge:

  • I bought a couple 3 piece nursing sleepwear sets from motherhood maternity but it sounds like maybe I should leave them at home if i ever plan to wear them again! Should I just go get some cheap extra big pj pants instead? I have some nursing tanks that I could wear with them. I was kinda hoping to look somewhat put together for pictures at the hospital but maybe I should just forget it!

  • travel size shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, face wash, mouthwash, deodorant
    toothbrushes and toothpaste
    hair elastics, stretchy headband, brush
makeup so i can feel and look nice for visitors and pictures, lip balm
    breast pads and cream
plain black undies, warm socks, nursing bras
yoga pants, nursing tanks, zip up sweater for going home, and visitors
robe, slippers, flip flops for shower
pillows for DH and I, nursing pillow
camera, video camera, phone, iPad, chargers, extra batteries
    health card
a few sleepers for baby, plus going home outfit, hats
    carseat, carseat cover, blanket
    clothes and PJ's for DH
    snacks and drinks
journal and pen to write birth story, wishes for baby, thank you notes, etc.

Some things I didn't list, ie diapers, wipes, maxi pads, because the hospital provides them. The hospital provides toiletries too but I have a pretty big collection of hotel "swag" and free samples, and they smell better. I'm all for feeling as human as possible after birth!
