Flameful confession

DH fixed up an old dresser into a new changing table for my room over the weekend.  I got so excited seeing it that I decided to dig out all of our gender neutral newborn stuff today and wash it.  When my kids wake from naps I'm going to have fun folding it all and putting it away in the drawers.  I usually don't get the bug to do this until the last month.  It's going to be a long four months until the baby gets here if I'm nesting already!

Oh, and just to AW DH's cute job on the changing table, here was the before (broken drawer and all).  We got it at a garage sale:

 And the after:

I couldn't resist buying some old lady floral knobs for it.  lol

Re: Flameful confession

  • Wow! The finished product looks fantastic! Kudos to your hubby. If I were you I'd be psyched to fill it up with baby things - no judgment here!

  • That's amazing.  I wish my DH had that kind of talent!
  • Ooh, your husband did an awesome job on the dresser!!!  I really wanted to do something similar with an old dresser, but I was getting frustrated finding something I liked, and found a really great deal on a new nursery set, so I caved and bought that instead. I'm going to make up for it by going DIY on the curtains, crib skirt, and mobile. ;-)

I bought an expensive set for DS1 and used it for DS2 and then decided to have my mom help me sew stuff for DD when we converted the nursery for her.  I actually think making the curtains, quilt and mobile is much more fun anyways!

My only advice is not to waste time on the skirt (unless it's really fun for you and you don't mind making something that you can't use for long) or if you do make a skirt, make sure you measure with the crib in the lowest setting.  The skirt I bought with DS1 only worked with the crib on the newborn setting and then dragged on the floor once we moved it down.  I never bothered with one for DD and just used the extra fabric instead for things like pillows for my rocker and other fun stuff.

Have fun!  Make sure you post some pics of it all when you finish.  I love seeing crafty stuff :)

Oh, I already planned ahead on the crib skirt thing!  We're (my mom and I, that is, she's really got most of the expertise when it comes to sewing!) going to initially measure it to be the proper length for the second HIGHEST setting, and then once we move it down to the second lowest or lowest setting, we're going to re-hem it to the length for the lowest setting.  I probably wouldn't have bothered with a crib skirt, but the fabric I found for the curtains is ADORABLE and I want to use it wherever I can. ;-)

    See?

I just think I'm being kind of silly getting all of the clothes out already and putting them where they go.  I mean, I'm only halfway there.

  • That is ADORABLE! I want to go to a garage sale or Goodwill or something now!
  • That's the cutest dresser!  Your husband did a great job!

I would consider that a good thing! I love being organized and prepared!! Especially with thanksgiving, christmas and new years between now and our due dates  I think it's pretty genius that you have gotten some things off the check list! Makes me want to do the same!!
