4yo B-day party (WWYD)

What's the etiquette when it comes to siblings at a birthday party?  Especially older ones when it comes to goody bags?

We invited 8 of DD1's preschool/Sunday School friends for a party tomorrow. and we now have 13 kids coming.  We've arrived as a family before but DD2 is too small to care about the goody bags.  I was going to run out to get more game supplies, do I need more bag stuff too?

  • I'd have a goody bag for every kid.

  • If you know they are coming, I would have a bag for them.

I am having DS's birthday party in a couple of weeks somewhere where you have to pay after 25 kids, $10 per kid.  I have no idea what is going to happen with siblings and unexpected people.  We are having a joint bday party and inviting about 30 kids.  If we do treat bags, there will only be ones for the kids we know are coming.

  • I've always done a goody bag for all of the kids (even babies).

  • I only provide goody bags for the kids that were invited to the party unless the parents emailed and asked if they could have the sibling included and you said yes, then I would get those extra kids goody bags.  I always make it clear on the invite who is invited and stick to that.  Last year at DD#1's party, we did it at a skating rink.  A few of the parents asked if they could bring their older/younger child to skate and I told them that the party was being held during open skate so that they were welcome to pay for their other child and I made it clear that I would not have lunch for them but I was sure we would have extra cake.  It worked out great.  I only got goody bags for the kids that were invited to the party.

  • I do a goody bag for every kid.  If the goody bag contents aren't age appropriate for the younger siblings, I'll usually do a more age appropriate one for them (like a coloring book and a pack of crayons) and label them with their names.
