I read this article (https://www.npr.org/2011/07/15/137859024/rethinking-sids-many-deaths-no-longer-a-mystery)   about how over 90% of sids cases in detroid aren't sids at all. They are soffocation. I thought, okay well this is reassuring- I do everything right... BUT she rolls on her tummy, every night. I know this is common- but how many babies here sleep on there tummys? Is the tummy risk really more a concern when they can't roll/dont have much head strength? H is a champion roller.

    DD has been a tummy sleeper since she was 4 weeks, and it's never been a problem. We have very firm mattresses, so her face never sinks into them, and we make sure to keep anything else away from her face as well. She's only rolled belly-back twice, and that was about a month ago.

    I do think that it's more of a head control issue than just about anything else because you could be concerned that if they go to turn their head, they might plop right back down on their nose and not be able to turn it anymore. Otherwise, though, it seems to me like tummy sleeping in and of itself isn't nearly as risky and it's sometimes made out to be.

    Morgan tummy sleeps and has since she started rolling. She has great neck strength and has always loved tummy time. She hated being swaddled so I think that is what had her rolling to her tummy so soon. Babies that swaddle seem to stay on their back longer. Both of my older kids loved their tummies too. I go through periods of worry where I check on her all the time but mostly I feel pretty good about it.

    Leo is almost 4 1/2 months and is a tummy sleeper. We just started it this week. I think it is all about the neck control. He can also roll over so I felt confident letting him sleep on his tummy. His older brother was sleeping on his tummy by this age as well.

    My 5 month old baby girl has only learned how to roll from her back to her tummy in the last week and does it thru the night. It worries me since she hasn't learned the opposite so I end up waking up every 2 hrs to check on her. I dont have anything in the crib with her but still wonder what else I can do...........

    DS has been a tummy sleeper since 6 weeks when he could move his head back and forth without getting stuck.  Now if I lay him on his back for even a few seconds he rolls right over during awake or sleep times.

    DS is literally incapable of sleeping on his back without falling asleep then jumping up and crying. He will only sleep well on his stomach and it has never been a problem. I check him frequently regardless, but he loves sleeping on his tummy.
