I asked for the vaccine while I was in the hospital and they administered it there. DH actually had just left his appointment at his GP for receiving the shot when I called him to tell him that my water had broken. Both my parents and in laws and all of DH's and my brothers and their wives/girlfriends also received the shot within the week after DS was born. Anyone who hadn't received it was not allowed to touch DS until after he had gotten his first.set of vaccines.
Call me crazy or paranoid or overprotective, but I did a lot of reading up on it and decided that potentially exposing my child to it through someone who had not been vaccinated against it was not worth it!
My DH and I both got it and so did my mom who stayed with us for 2 weeks after the birth of each of my babies. My niece had whooping cough when she was an infant and it was aweful. She also has several severe developmental delays and while the doctors do not know the cause of these delays (could be genetic) they have said there is a possibility that having such a high fever at such a young age could have been a factor. After hearing that I wasn't going to mess around with it,
I got it before I was discharged from the hospital, and DH was actually due for his anyways about a week later (along with anthrax and a bunch of other crazy crap).

I was told that I'd get it in the hospital after delivery, but either that was wrong or they forgot.
Tried to get it at Walgreens but they wanted a prescription (wtf) finally got it at the county health dept right before I went back to work.
