3 wks since c/s - internal incision pain (and worry) help!

So I am 3 wks out since my c/s on the 14th... I have been feeling great but last night I started to have some serious pain on what I believe is my internal incision.  And by serious, I mean, I pressed on where my pain is and it made me cry.  It is very tender anytime I move, I feel sharp pains.  So... did I overdo it and I have to take it easy or do you think I should call my doc on monday?  My incision on the skin is healing nicely, no pain there.  6 wk appt is coming up soon....

This is my 3rd c/s you think I would know if I should be worried or not, but I literally cannot remember my recovery form my other two kiddos.

Help!?

  • I got weird pain about 4 weeks after mine sort of like what you described, but that was from lifting DS's car seat and twisting at my waist to get it in the car. I don't remember it being as bad as you describe yours, and it went away after a few days of not lifting/twisting.

If it doesn't get better by Monday, I would def call the doctor. Actually, I would probably call even if I felt better just to be sure.

  • Curious what your outcome is...I'll be 3 weeks PP on Tuesday and this past Friday was the first time I went grocery shopping alone and since then I've felt a pain on the left side of my incision. My scar is heeling fine and there is no discharge, this also almost feels like it could be the internal incision. Got through Friday ok, but yesterday all of a sudden when I went to stand up it hurt so bad I sat right back down and was in tears. Most of the evening it was a strong throbbing pain and off and on I was in tears. I still have horrible swelling (looks like a brick under my incision, which is high, just below my belly button) which may have to do with it. Had been sleeping on my side for the past 2-3 days, couldn't last night, hurt too bad. Each time I stand up and "bump" it the pain is awful. Had a left over pain pill I took to ease it up but I'm getting worried too.

  • It takes longer for your internal incision to heal than the external. My advice would be to both call your doctor and take it easier. They tell you to wait 8 weeks to do certain things for a reason and sometimes we think we're doing much better than we are. I'm 20 months out since my last c-section and I still have tenderness on the inside. 3 weeks isn't a very long time. Give yourself some more time to heal! Good luck!

  • I had a pretty constant sharp pain for about 6 weeks after my c-section. The pains were located on each side (mainly on my rights). I asked the doctor about it and he explained that he had made knots with on each side of my internal incision when he stitched me up. He explained that the stitches were most likely putting a bit of pressure on each side and causing the pain. He emphasized that the right side had torn a little when they took LO out and that it would be more tender for a few weeks. It stopped hurting completely after week 8. I just took it easier for a few extra weeks.
