Toddlers: 24 Months+

How much does your 25 month old talk?

Are they saying lots of 2 word sentences?  When did your LOs speech "explosion" happen.  I feel like we're still waiting for it.  I know he is a late talker but our pedi did not seemed concerned enough to suggest speech therapy.  He also just started pre-school and they have not said anything to us (I'm thinking about asking their opinion though just to see where they think he's at).

Re: How much does your 25 month old talk?

  • Both my boys were late talkers.

At age 2, DS1 had, wow hard to remember, 20ish words maybe?  His language 'exploded' around 2.5 and now at the age of 5 you would never guess he was a late talker.

At age 2, DS2 had zero words.  He really didn't start talking at all until he was closer to 2.5 and now at age 3.5 he has an excellent vocabularly.

Both kids attended speech therapy starting at 20ish months.  DS1 attended for 8ish months and DS2 for nearly 2 full years.

  • DS1 was about 20 months, DS2 about a month ago.  He doesn't stop now.

  • Ds was, what I considered, a late talker, or an "almost" late talker. No real words or even babbling until 18 months. Then one word at a time for several months, two words started right as we were about to do a speech referral at 24 months.  It was like an explosion right around two.

  • DD is almost 24 months, and doesn't talk much.  She has about 25 words, and does not put two words together yet.  She was evaluated, and was while she was below average she did not qualify for any therapy.  I am not that worried because she understands more than she says, babbles constantly, and is picking up new words frequently.

  • At 25 months DS said mama, dada and baby.  We had his hearing tested and were just starting to look into possible treatment for him.  At about 26-27 months, he started saying more and more words, then a few word sentences.  By 2.5 he was talking like crazy.  Now, he doesn't stop!

  • DD is 27 mos and talks up a storm and enunciates very well.  The explosion happened right around 23 months for us.  She was saying phrases and linking up thoughts well at 24 mos.
  • My DS has quite a few singular words but just started saying two word phrases somewhat recently.  His vocab has really exploded in the last month or so, he's almost 28 months.

  • At 25 months, my son maybe had 25-30ish words (he had been in speech therapy for 5 months by that point though) with some simple two word phrases--oddly enough, he started 2 word phrases when he still had under 10 words. His language didn't really explode until 2.5.

  • DD is 26 months and just starting to get into the explode mode. She picks up most words we say, but still not quite there. Give it time :)

  • She talks nonstop.... she started using 6-8 word sentences at 18 months.  If you don't hear her talking it's because she's sleeping.

This sounds like my DS. He started talking at 9 months and never stopped.

  • He had a language explosion around 18-19 months where he picked up a ton of new singular words. I would say 20-21 months is when he started using 2 word sentences and by 2yo he was using 6-8 word sentences. At this point, he pretty much never stops talking. :P
  • My daughter talks nonstop and just recently started stringing more than 2-3 words together.  It seemed to happen all of a sudden!
