C-sections

no weight loss?

I had my c-section five days ago and weighed myself for the first time today and was shocked to see that I weighed the exact same as i did before my c section.

I only gained 22 pounds and was thin before getting pregnant.  I've also had no swelling or such that I've noticed (my shoes all fit fine).  Is this normal? I'm BFing also...last time I had complications and gained weight in the hospital but this time  everything was routine so I expected some sort of change. No worries of course just wondering what the norm was.

Re: no weight loss?

  • It was about a week before I noticed any loss - my legs were very swollen and I was obviously retaining water.  I gained 39 lbs and EBF too, I lost 26 lbs after about three weeks, then had to actually work to get the last 13 off.  Dont stress yourself out ;)

  • I'm down 5lbs below pre-PG weight, and a dress size smaller. I still have swelling and my milk is weighing down my boobs! LOL! I'm sure I'll drop some more weight.

BUT, I only gained 11lbs total and had a personal trainer during this PG.

  • Think it's pretty normal. When I weighed myself after we got home from the hospital I was the same weight as well. Figured I would have at least lost his weight...nadda. I'm 2.5 week PP now and I've lost the 20 pounds I gained plus a few extra. Think it had to do with swelling I didn't even notice I was having.

  • I had friends who BF'd and the weight just poured off--not the same for me--mine didnt start pouring off until I stopped;  you still have a lot of fluid retention;  give it a few weeks

  • I gained 11 lbs when I got out of the hospital! I had retained a lot of fluid, my legs just looked like chunks of wood. We did go back for a check up because the swelling was freaking me out a bit and were told it was normal. I'm hoping for a different outcome this time.

  • Everyone will loose weight differently. I gained 43 lbs and was in great shape before I got pregnant. At 2 weeks pp I had lost 20 lbs but the rest has not come off. I was bfing and my ob said that a lot of women will hold on to the weight while they nurse because their body wants to make sure there is enough fat to produce milk.

Once I weaned last month I did loose 10 more lbs. I am now working on the last 13 or so.

  • I gained about 15 lb. with each of my pregnancies and came home from the hospital weighing just a few pounds less than when I went in.  Usually by a week PP it started coming off and I was down to pre-pregnancy weight or below by two or three weeks PP.

  • Six days out, I'm down about 8 lbs from what I weighed the day I delivered (dd was not quite 7 lbs at birth).  With DS, I remember that I weighed *more* a week post-c/s than I did on delivery day, but it leveled out by the 2 week mark, and by 4 weeks I had lost quite a bit of the weight with him.

  • The IV pumps you so full of fluids that it takes a while for them to clear out of your system.  Stop worrying about the scale for a few weeks, or better yet, a month.
