We just began at one of only two Co-operative preschools in our city. I love it so far. My job is Class Chair for our 2 Day Friends class. I think it is amazing that every single position except for the two paid teachers is held by parents: secretary, presidents, registrar, maintenance, etc
I am curious about how much time you put in if you are also doing a co-op preschool. Share please :-)
Re: anyone else doing Co-op preschool?
We only have 7 families in the 2 day class right now so we are each in the classroom once every 7 class days (3 1/2 weeks) as the assistant teacher. Because my job is Class Chair I attend the Executive Board meeting every month, every family must send one member to the monthly Parent Board meeting, and I hold a Class Meeting bi-monthly. Meetings are generally 7-9pm.
Our school has 2 Day for kids 2 1/2-3, 3 Day for 3 year olds, and 5 day for 4s and 5s. I think right now the school has 39 families altogether. It's called Molly Michie: https://mmp.avenue.org/
I have 3 kids in a co-op preschool. It is INTENSE and I love it.
I am in the classroom 3 times a month (3 kids!)
My family job is Enrichment coordinator. I have a budget and must book 2 "acts" a month to enhance the curriculum. It is crazy, but fun. Last year I was a fieldtriip coordinator for my oldest's class and they did a fieldtrip every month.
We must attend 2 fundraiser events a year.
We must attend 1 school cleanup saturday per child in the school. They are held Satuday mornings 5 times a year.
8 parent education hours a year (many are met through mandatory meetings, 3 hours are various conference offered.
8 volunteer hours a year. They can be met through attending board meetings, bringing food to various events, or if you're hard up like I was last year, laminating and cutting out materials for teachers.
It is insane, but I love it!
We are. DD attends 2 days a week, 3 hours a day. I have to work in the classroom twice every 4 weeks. There is one teacher and two aides, and on any given day 3-4 parents in the classroom (25 kids). There is a snack sign up sheet; we have provided snack once so far and don't have to do it again until January. She has an upcoming field trip for which at least one parent must attend, and then there's a Halloween party and we have to bring a potluck item.
I don't have a specific "job", the teacher just assigns you to whatever project she needs help on for the day. All co-op parents watch the kids on the playground, assist w/ set up/clean up, etc.
Except that right now DH has to assume my co-op duties since I'm on bed rest
I'm sad I can't participate right now.
