What purreed meat to start with?

My girls have only been on Purrees. Yes, i'm taking it super slow plus they were 2 months premature. I have only done veggies and fruit so far. What purreed meats did you start with? also how do you know they're ready for puffs?

Re: What purreed meat to start with?

  • We started with chicken. We started Ds on puffs around 6 months I think. I started by feeding them to him so he would get used to them , then worked up to just dumping them on his high chair tray to practice his pincer grasp.

  • No help with the meat.  I never did pureed meat with my girls, it grosses me out.  DD1 didn't get meat until she was eating finger foods.

The puffs I started around 8 months with DD1 (DD2 has feeding issues and started them around 10 months).  I just put on her lips to get the flavor and she started feeding herself.  They melt really quickly so I wasn't worried about choking.

Thanks! I think i'm going to pick some up this week. My one daughter is working w/ a speech therapist starting this month for feeding issues as well...so I may wait w/ her until she sees the therapist.

  • We did both chicken and turkey, I don't think it matters much what you start with. I couldn't get myself to make meat puree so I bought them from Happy Baby and Ella's Kitchen.

As far as puffs go, we started at 6 months. I started by putting them on a spoon. Then we graduated to putting them in his hand, and finally just on the tray so he could pick them up himself. Took him about a month and a half to do that.

  • If you are into making your own at all, my daughter really liked chicken pureed with sweet potatoes. It made for a better consistency.

  • LO"s first proteins were scrambled eggs, beans, tofu, and yogurt. I never gave her pureed meat. I did shop up thigh meat really fine and stir it into carrots.

DD2 is also working with a speech therapist and an occupational therapist for eating.  I'd wait and see what they say.  Our therapist started DD2 on the puffs.

  • OMG your girls are so stinkin cute!!! I started with chicken (made my own because store meats look fowl to me) Mix it with a veggie and usually sweet potato and DS loves it.  Followed by turkey and beef (when I make turkey meat balls or meat loaf...and beef stew)

  • We only do meats that come in a meal like Earth's Best Vegetable Turkey dinner or Sweet Potato Chicken dinner. DS loves them!

We started by breaking the Happy Baby puffs in 3 pieces and then worked up to full ones. Just give some and see the reaction. You'll know if its time.

  • We started with chicken.  I sauteed it and then diced into the brezza to blend.  My daughter seemed to  really like the chicken with either carrots or sweet potato mixed in, probably whatever veg.  your girls like best will work.

My ped. told me puffs were mostly for practice picking up food.  If you look at the package they have pretty much 0 calories. . . So my daughter had them at about 8 months, but I switched back and forth between them and cheerios from the start, and ended up with just cheerios now (cheaper, and actually more nutrition from what I can tell.
