Asking MIL to host?

Hi everyone, I'm expecting in March and starting to think about a shower. I live about 5 hours from where I grew up and I would rather just have one shower, here, where I live with my husband. I mentioned this to my mom and she honestly seemed relieved - and agreed.

Now, my MIL lives close and she would be the next logical person to throw one - but she's not the type to ever ask me. Although she'd do a great job.

I really get a lot of heartburn asking anyone to throw me a baby shower, but my husband insists that she would love to do it and would simply just need me to ask. I just don't want to seem rude or entitled.

What do you think? Is there a hard and fast rule that you don't ask for your own shower or should I take my husband's advice since he knows her so well?

You don't ask for your own shower. It's a gift that is given to you. Think of it this way. Would you walk up to someone and say "this is what I want for my birthday." without them asking you first what you'd like? Probably not, right? It's inappropriate for you to ask anyone to throw you a shower.
