Sizing question- what's next

What comes after 5T?  Is it kids' 4?  Thanks!

Re: Sizing question- what's next

  • Generally 4=4T and 5=5T. Size 6 would be next. Some brand carry 6, some carry 6/6X, some carry 6/7.

  • Oh man.  This is hard!!!  All 3 of mine are so tall and skinny I have a hard time.  My oldest is 5 in a month and just hit 31 lbs.  She can wear 18 month dresses, 2T and 3T shirts and shorts.  3T pants are big in the waist  but way too short.  Insult to injury she reads tags and is indignant about wearing "baby clothes."  Wish I sewed!

    Thank you for the responses!

Look for 4 slim in pants. 4 is the start of slim sizes. Also try Oshkosh for things like leggings and soft pants because they fit slimmer. DD1 is a 7 for length and a 4/5 for waist, and Oshkosh fits her the best.

I'd try girls size 4 or XS for shirts.

  • Thanks, ladies- I haven't seen the slim sizing.  We do have some of the adjustable waists- thanks for the tips on the stores.  She is wearing a lot of what she wore last year, but now her sister is wearing the same size, so need to update their closet a little, so I need get more- I'll start at those places.

Crazy 8 carries slim size in jeans. (So does Gymboree, but they're more expensive and online only usually.) TCP carries slim sizes online only. If you have a Shopko nearby, they actually have jeans in slim sizes.

No, 4 is the skinnier butted equivalent to 4T (in MOST brands- makes it all trickier ;). You'll likely need a 6, or a "XS/S" depending on the item/brand.

That's what I've found so far. The 4's in both shirts and pants seem to be a bit longer and narrower than 4T.

  • I don't know about girls, since DD is still a toddler, but I know that our Target also sells boy jeans with adjustable waists in slim sizes.  They're the Denizen brand, which I believe is Target specific brand by Levi.  I'd assume that they also sell them in the girl section too?

  • 5 in the girls department comes after 5T or a size 6.  5T and 5 are basically the same, just that the T is cute to fit a diaper/pull-up and the 5 is not for the most party.  Look at 5/6 or XS and S - I find that it varies based on the store/brand.
