where you find something (in good shape) at home that you don't want & you wrap it up & bring it in to give to someone else?
I mistakenly called our office gift exchange this when i apparently volunteered to organize this for next wednesday. i kind of meant something else, but this is fine too. Just wanted to make sure i had it right before explaining it to everyone else.
Re: nbr: is this a white elephant gift xchange?
I think a White Elephant gift in a gag gift. LIke a crappy gift that you would not want. What happens is... the group picks a gift each and opens it. Then the sucky gifts are revealed and they can change gifts with someone else for a less suckier gift. My DH does this every year. Some items?
A 4 ft tall Cat Calendar, DVD of The Life Aquatic (worst movie ever), a dancing Rocky Balboa.
Our white elephant gift exchanges are junk that you want to get rid of. Some stuff isn't even in good shape....I was at one where one guy gave this really old lamp that did not work and was REALLY ugly. It can be a nice gift if you want, but the ones I've been to are usually really funny crappy gifts.
I have to share, and all the teachers out there will appreciate this, even though it's a little mean.
I went to a staff Christmas party with DH a few years ago (all teachers) and they all had to bring a gift that a student had given them over the years. Now I'm not saying that many childrens' gifts aren't thoughtful and sentimental or just plain adorable, BUT there are lots of doozies out there too! I've never seen so many apple-turned-Christmas gifts in one room:)
