Hi there! I know you are the carrier guru and I have 2 questions for you.
1. DS2 is a big boy. 16lbs and 26 inches at 12 weeks. I'm using the Gemini and loving it. The trouble is that he's so big I'm afraid he's already outgrowing it. We only do front facing in. Are the sides of the carrier supposed to be under the back of the knees?
Right now, the sides are hitting about 1.5 inches above the back of the knee
2. Does my dream buckle carrier actually exsist? I like the cross back w a pocket and a sleeping hood that's not bulky and hot lol...big wish list I know.
I love how trim and light the Gemini is, and LOVE a cross back option of the gemini but I wish that it had the pocket and sleeping hood like an ergo.
Any suggestions?
Re: Ncbelle: 2 q's for you
The Gemini is pretty small bodied - making it great for wee ones but not so great for super chunks! As long as you are still comfy it's ok. The ideal is knee to knee but as long as he is still in the sit squat position - with his knees up a bit higher than the bum - you are ok. If his knees start to drop, that's when you would really want to think about sizing up. Once babies knees drop, it definitely pulls more on your back since they aren't snugging into your body as well (plus it's not as ideal a position for him of course). I wouldn't worry so much about it not being knee to knee as much as the position he is in.
If I were you, I'd probably stick with the Gemini until he's big enough for a "toddler"size something since it sounds like he's going to be a big kid (well, if he keeps it up!).
If you want straps that cross behind...The babyhawk oh snap is an option as is the Action Baby Carrier (which is my personal favorite - just did a review on my blog). A friend of mine who loved the Gemini recently got an Action Baby Carrier toddler size and loves it (she tried the Oh Snap as well and liked the ABC better). It's lightweight and has a hood - no pocket although they just started making some sort of pouch you can attached to the waist belt. The toddler ABC would probably be a tad big for y'all yet but I think it would work once the Gemin started to feel way too small. There are some more "boutique" carriers like the Kanga that allow the straps to cross behind but those are harder to get a hold of.
So I'd probably

I do love the built in pocket and hood though for outings where I don't need the whole bag, like walks or grocery store trips.
Thanks again!
What just happened in my diaper?!
