Originally the recall didn't include epidural meds, but since then the recall was expanded to include some epidural meds used during childbirth. Scary stuff!

how terrible for any mother who may have had an epidural and is now worried about this. linked or not, would you want to have this hanging over your head right after you gave birth?

My DH and I were reading about this and we agreed that maybe it's a good idea to avoid putting things in our spines whenever possible. Obviously it has to happen some times but holy crap it's scary!
Then I saw a video of an epidural needle being placed and I'm sitting here thinking "Oh no! No no no no no no. That doesn't go there! Why is everyone so calm? There's a NEEDLE STUCK IN HER BACK! Somebody take that out!"
I felt like I was watching an episode of Star Trek except it wasn't pretend and there weren't any aliens with funny foreheads.
Re: FDA Recall on Epi Meds
The medecine being recalled is a steroid used to treat back pain, and has nothing to do with epidural anesthesia.
Edit: The article I read originally stated that the epidural anesthesia used in L&D was NOT affected. Oy, how disturbing...

DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
The expansion is a voluntary recall and no epidurals have been linked to the fungal meningitis outbreak.
But yeah, there are risks to injecting things into your spine. No thanks.
I hadn't thought about that!

I'm kind of afraid of epidurals.
