2. Does it have a meaning? Or why did you pick it?

3. What would your LO's name have been if he/she was the opposite sex?

Re: Let's talk names!

  • 1. We aren't sharing our LO's first name online bc we are keeping his first Russian name and we want to wait until he is officially ours to share it.  But we choose Kayin for his middle name.

    2. His Russian name is special for two reasons: first of all it shows his heritage which is very special to us and second the meaning is special to us b/c it was almost an answer to an issue we were concerned about in the adoption.  We looked up his name on a whim one night and felt like it was some kind of divine intervention speaking into that specific fear.

The middle name "Kayin" means "the long awaited child" or "the celebrated one." He is both!  So we thought it was fitting.  DH's mom's middle name is "Kay" so we also loved that it had her name in there too.

    3. It's a secret b/c we will still use it if we ever have or adopt a girl someday!  :-)

If you are comfortable sharing your LO's (future LO) name...

     1. What is it? Miles

    2. Does it have a meaning? Or why did you pick it? My DH has always loved the name Miles and has wanted to name his future son Miles for as long as he can remember.

    3. What would your LO's name have been if he/she was the opposite sex?  Gabriella Sophia - I'm okay sharing because it will probably never be used. Since we are adopting from foster care we will most likely use the name already given or if we do change it I would imagine it will depend a lot on the child and their personality. I love so many girl names that I know if we ever did need one we would agree on one pretty easily. Boy names are much tougher, I like Leo and Calvin.

  • Zoe Marie - Zoe means "life" in Greek.  We have always loved that name, and it was one of the few girls' names that we could agree on!  We also love it because her birthmom's name also starts with a Z.  (It's not Zoe.)  Zoe's middle name is in honor of her birthmom's middle name and her birthgrandma's middle name.   If LO had been a boy, we liked Jack William or Alexander David.  We also like Charlotte for a girl.

We kept our names secret until Zoe was born.  (Well, her birthmom knew!)  We wanted the name to be a surprise.

  • If you are comfortable sharing your LO's (future LO) name...

     1. What is it?

Well, we may keep Baby A's name. If not, we tend to go biblical (see siggy, haha!). We were stuck between Ezra and Judah until he was born. We decided on Luke bc we thought if he doesn't like that Ezra is kind of "unique" then Luke is certainly common enough.

If baby A is a girl, Miriam Sanyu (if we don't like her given name). I'm really pulling for my little Miri! But we didn't specify a gender, so we'll see. If he's a boy, Isaiah or Daniel or Silas.

    2. Does it have a meaning? Or why did you pick it?

Well Ezra means "help." But I also just like how it sounds and that many people are familiar with the name, but not many use it.

    3. What would your LO's name have been if he/she was the opposite sex?

Well Ezra probably would have been Elise Lydia.

If you are comfortable sharing your LO's (future LO) name...

     1. What is it? our son's name is Cole Granville.

    2. Does it have a meaning? Or why did you pick it?

yes and no. Cole is just a name we both liked. I work at a school, so I've had so many kids that a lot of the names i really liked were "ruined" by kids who weren't the best behaved LOL

I like more traditional names, and DH wanted something "different".... so Cole was "different" without being TOO "out there", and we felt like it would be easy for people to say and spell. Granville is my dads name- he is the 4th one in his family with that name ( my grandfather, great grandfather, etc had that name). Since my dad didn't have any boys to pass the name onto, I felt like it was a nice way to keep it in there :-)

    3. What would your LO's name have been if he/she was the opposite sex?  If we adopt again and have a girl, her name will be Emily Elaina. Emily i've just always loved, and it happens to kind of be a combo of my grandmoms names, Emma and Mary :-) Elaina I like, too- and is a combo of DHs grandmas names- Eva and Lorraine :-)

  • His name is Quinn Gregory

His birth mom asked to have input on his name.  Quinn is a family name from birth mom's side.  Thankfully, we have always liked that name. Gregory is after my father.

Not sure on a girl's name.  Currently, I am liking Maya, Hannah, and Catherine.

  • 1. I don't like to share it because it's extremely uncommon and might make her easier to "find". ETA: Her middle name is technically a boy name, but it's also DH's grandma's maiden name. We liked being able to use a family name somewhere in there. And GMIL was thrilled.

    2. It's an Irish Gaelic name. It has a nice meaning, but that wasn't why we chose it. We were tossing around a ton of Irish Gaelic names, and this one popped up one day. DH saw/heard it on TV with me one day and agreed that it was perfect.

    3. DH has a boy name that he will.not.budge on. I guess it's in the running if we ever adopt a boy.

We have three first names picked out but not sharing yet.  We will see which one fits when she arrives.  Middle name will be Sarah which I think means princess, but is after my husband's brother who passed as an infant.

  • 1. What is it? Cohen Edward

    2. Does it have a meaning? Or why did you pick it?

Cohen means "man of God" and Edward is both DH and my FIL's middle names

     3. What would your LO's name have been if he/she was the opposite sex?

We didn't find out the sex, so he would have been Anne-Katherine Elisabeth after my aunt/sister, if he had been a girl. Good thing he wasn't. We had no idea how popular Katherine was that year.  In his mother's day out class of 12 kids, there is a Katherine, a Katie and 2 Kates!!

If you are comfortable sharing your LO's (future LO) name...

     1. What is it? Benjamin

    2. Does it have a meaning? Or why did you pick it?  It means son of my right hand, but it is also my grandfather's name. It was one of the more amazing moments of Ben's birth calling my 88-year-old grandpa to tell him we named our first after him. I love family names, but we don't have great ones to choose from, other than Benjamin, which I love. For boys names, I like either short names or long names that can be shortened and are (if that make sense).

    3. What would your LO's name have been if he/she was the opposite sex?

We actually had a really hard time agreeing on a girl's name. We used to love Abigail, but I think we had too much time to think about it since we loved it before we started TTC, so we decided that it is out. I like lots of girls' names, but my DH is very particular about names.

  • 1.  I'll share first names only--  Mary Jane and Betsy (Elizabeth)

    2.  MJ is my late mother in law's name.  I never met her... she died when my husband was in his early 20s.  I really had no say in the name.. it was that big of a deal to DH.   With Betsy, we wanted something that at the same era feeling as MJ.   Betsy's middle name is the feminine version of my husband's MN.  Both girls have my maiden name as a middle name (meaning both girls have four names!)

    3.  We did not know Mary Jane's gender so we were prepared to call her Charles Joseph after my father and husband's names.

  •  1. What is it? Sydney Ann

    2. Does it have a meaning? Or why did you pick it? We narrowed the list of the top 500 names down to 15. After that, we secretly wrote down our top 5 names. There were 2 that we both put in our top 5...Sydney and Charlotte. We both quickly agreed that Charlotte was not 'us', so we picked Sydney. What's funny, is that I met DH a week before I went on a trip to Sydney, Australia. The entire time I was there, I kept talking about this guy I met and how he was going to be my boyfriend when I got home. So, our relationship pretty much started in Sydney.

We also talked to LO's birth mama about what we were thinking about and she likes Sydney as well. We also talked to her about middle names. We liked the idea of using her middle name for Sydney's middle name. She was going to name LO Claire when she was thinking about parenting, so we told her that we wanted her to pick her middle name...Claire or Ann. BM chose Ann, which made us happy. Now LO will always share a middle name with her wonderful birth mama! :)

    3. What would your LO's name have been if he/she was the opposite sex? If she had been a boy, we would have used the name Casey. That is DH's name and we wanted to pass that name along. He would be Casey Jr. (start singing the song!), but we would call him CJ. I also really love the name Cameron for a boy.

If you are comfortable sharing your LO's (future LO) name...

     1. What is it?

If it's a boy, he'll be Joshua Duff.  If the baby is a girl, she'll be Katherine Paige.

    2. Does it have a meaning? Or why did you pick it?

Katherine was my great-grandma, and I LOVE traditional names.  Joshua was the name of hubby's best childhood friend, who passed away suddenly while we were on our honeymoon, and Duff was my grandfather's name.

    3. What would your LO's name have been if he/she was the opposite sex?

    N/A
