VBAC

Anyone have a VBAC less than 18 months after c/s?

My babies will be 17 months apart and I am afraid that falls short of the at least 18 months between deliveries rule.  I haven't seen my OB since I got pregnant.  She did say before getting pregnant at my annual that I would be a candidate for a VBAC and that the practice/hospital are very VBAC friendly.  I am worried not enough time has passed.

  • I asked this question to my midwife because our 2nd child was a c-section and our kids are all close together and we really didn't want to wait 18 months.  Anyways, she said my uterus will be the strongest it will be at 2 months, 18 months is recommended only because that's when they estimate you are physically AND emotionally ready for another child.

  • I fall short the 18 months between vbac rule by 2 weeks. My doc has given the go-ahead for vbac anyway. He said that the rule is becoming outdated thinking

  • A colleague of mine had a VBAC and her children are <14 months apart.  She said everyone was very supportive of her decision.

  • Mine are 14 and some change months apart. :) My doctor was way supportive and he really didn't even act like it was a big deal at all.

  • My c/s baby & vbac baby are 17mo apart.  I had no issues with my 39wk vbac induction.

  • I had a successful vbac 14 months after my first csection. My dr was not concerned at all. It was a long labor but no complications. I had an epidural at 5 cm. My son was a big boy at 9lbs 6 oz.
Don't be concerned. They monitor you at the hospital and know if something is wrong. They treated me like a normal labor. I was allowed to stay home to labor until my contractions were close together. I didn't have a monitor on until I got the epidural.
Best of luck with your birth!

  • Haven't had the VBAC yet but mine will be just barely 17 months apart. All the OBs at the clinic I go to are fine with that timing.

  • Mine are all 15 months apart and no one thought twice about trying for a VBAC.  I don't even think I ever heard of the 18 month rule.  I also had very large babies and GD.
