Do you sell kids' clothes?

It seems like it is more trouble than it is worth to put on eBay or CL or Garage Sale, but then I know I like getting deals those places.  Plus, I've been buying a little higher $quality$ clothing lately, since they aren't growing as fast so things are holding up well.

Re: Do you sell kids' clothes?

  • I have never been a big fan of selling kid's clothes.  Unless they're really high quality big name brands or something.  In fact I get kind of annoyed when I go to a garage sale and I see people trying to sell a used onesie for like $5.00 are you freaking kidding me? it should be like 10 cents.

Anyway.  I haven't given away any clothes yet because we have 2 girls so i'm re-using all the clothes, but when I'm done with all the clothes I plan to donate them to a women's shelter or something.

  • I tried consigning a few things I had, but it wasn't worth the effort.  I had really nice, barely used pink uggs and Janie and Jack dresses/sweaters - and I seriously got like $24 for them - that the lady couldn't even mail me a check b/c it wasn't over $ 25 - so I'd have to go to her shop on a weekday to pick up my check.  Ugg - PITA, no thanks.  I just donate my stuff to Goodwill and am done w/ it.  I've sold and/or given away a few equipment typle things from my house -  just listed them on my local bump or FB.

Now, if I had nice equipment, I'd sell that.

  • I get a lot of DD's clothing second hand from a work friend, but I can still consign a lot of it when we're done.  We have a local shop that is pretty picky, but will give you a few bucks per piece.  It's better than nothing.  All money we get goes to DD's savings.

Oh, and I've actually made a little money on eBay - I sold Ralph Lauren clothing and Gymboree stuff there.  It's a pain and almost not worth the effort.

  • We have a kids consignment sale in our town that happens twice a year. There are strict guidlines on the quality of clothes and toys that can be sold in that sale so I always find top quality brands for VERY cheap. I really haven't bought hardly any brand new clothes since I've been racking up at that bi-yearly sale. I haven't sold anything yet since my 1st daughter is just under a year old and I'm expecting another girl in Feb.

  • Right now we're saving in case we have another LO, but a suggestion for people that are donating....A local women's shelter mentioned to me that they are always in need of baby care items, as a lot of the women there have small kids.  If you have sealed formula (samples that you didn't use) or baby items, they might go to really good use there.

They also said they really appreciate getting maternity clothes if you're done with yours.

  • Most of DD's clothes aren't in good enough condition to be sold; they get so stained and gross!

My mother buys her a lot of designer clothes, which if they're in good condition, I usually put away for either another daughter of my own or my sister's future daughter.

However, I've also donated clothes to her daycare of all places which said they were interested in them.

  • I give them away / donate them or save ones that I really like and are in good shape in case we have another girl.  Just not worth it to me.  However, if you have any maternity clothes - I made a KILLING for mine on ebay.  Like over $900, it was INSANE!!!
  • Not worth the hassle to me. I just give them away, either to neighbors or to charity. But a lot of our stuff was handed down to begin with and my kids are pretty hard on clothes.

  • I do Once Upon a Child and just get store credit, which I then use to buy most of what he wears. So half of what they're buying from me came from them in the first place. They don't give very much, but it's more than zero and it's super fast, especially if I'm browsing for new stuff in the meantime.

This. I buy and sell at Just Between Friends sales each year. I usually make a couple hundred dollars.

  • No.  I would not do this. DD destroys her clothes.  She plays hard, so I just throw them away.

  • I give DD's clothes away - our friend's daughter is almost exactly a year younger than DD, so they are making good use out of her clothes.  I'm too lazy to bother with ebay/craigslist.
  • I am part of a "yard sale" type of group in my area on Facebook. I love buying my 4yoDD clothes on there. I find out in a little more than a month what this LO will be. If it is a boy, then I will be selling my DD's small clothes. Probably like a whole bunch for $20. Not much, but it will get me a few packs of diapers! :-)
