disneyworld in November or January?

DD will turn 5 next December.  And, we are thinking about doing a big trip to Disneyworld to celebrate.  Going in December will be tough for me workwise, so I'm thinking about doing it in either November or January.  We were there for 2 days in October a few years ago and it was hot but not awful, definitely warm enough to swim.  I'm thinking November might be ideal - less crowded and slightly warmer than January.  Thoughts??

  • Depends when in each month you go.  Jan can be cool.  Nov depending when you go, it will be decorated for the holidays.  I think crowd wise as long as you avoid Thanksgiving are about the same from what I have heard.

  • I believe January is considered a non-peak month meaning less crowds and you can probably find a great deal on a hotel.  Also, look and see if there are any special on the meal dining plan. Sometimes WDW will offer a promo-if you book by a certain date and travel w/in a date range you will receive a free meal plan. That will save you a tremendous amt of money. This is coming from a person who visited WDW in Sept and missed the free meal plan by 1 wk and paid out of pkt.  I now wished we could have changed our travel dates.

  • We went in mid November last year and loved it!  It was not crowded at all.  We waited at most 10 minutes in line for the majority of the rides. (We didn't do many thrill type rides though.  We did all the popular other rides that DD could go on.)  I also really enjoyed all of the Christmas decorations.  The castle is completely lit up with white lights and is gorgeous.  It was mid 80s the whole time we were there.  DD went swimming every evening. We also found a good deal online for the Disney resorts. I definitely vote for November.

  • From a local's standpoint, the weather is likely to be beautiful in both Nov and Jan. I typically only bring out a winter coat for a few days each year, if at all. As long as you avoid holiday periods, the weeks before and after Thanksgiving and also Martin Luther King Day weekend in January, the crowds should be minimal as well!

  • We are going the 1st week of December this year.  I did a ton of research before picking our dates.  Really wanted to take advantage of not being tied down to a school calendar.  Assuming you are not going in Thanksgiving I would choose November.  Good weather, lower crowds and depending on when you are there some of the Christmas decorations will already be up.  January will probably be the lowest crowds but things are sometimes closed for refurbishment.  Below are 2 good websites that have crowd calendars.  You have to pay for the 2nd one to get all the features but it has a ton of good information and I like their line wait time app.

  • Definitely November, but as others have said, not Thanksgiving week.

Have you ever gone on Halloweeen?

  • I would go in November so I could see the holiday stuff.

  • If you go before November 12 (I think), you can go to Epcot's Food and Wine Festival. We went a couple years ago and loved it...it can get VERY expensive but it is great and it is Disney where nothing comes cheap. :-)
  • Went in January last year and it was great.  Not crowded, easy access to the characters.  The weather was great.  Not cold at all.  I don't recall rides being closed.
