Breastfeeding moms..

What are your biggest struggles nursing with a toddler.  I didn't nurse the first time around, so I'm not very well versed in anything that comes along with breastfeeding, and I know it's going to be more difficult with a toddler.  Any advice?

    The hardest thing is that your toddler will inevitably ask for something as soon as you start nursing the baby.  You need to try to be proactive.  Get your toddler a sippy cup, snack, toy/coloring book, etc. (and have the tv remote handy) before you sit down with baby.  I also had to plan carefully for nursing the baby while out in public with the kids.  If we went to the playground or library storytime, we would stay for about an hour then head for the car.  I would get my toddler strapped in and give her a snack while I nursed the baby in the car.  I would not recommend trying to nurse the baby in public when toddler can climb out of the stroller/ try to open the changing room door/ etc. - stick to a confined space like the car.  I would often let her watch youtube elmo videos on my phone while nursing.

    we did all of this.

    I also prepared and plated all of DD's meals the night before...even sippy cups! It had a few occurrences where I was nursing one handed and trying to get DD some milk into a sippy cup at the same time or something along those lines.

    Also, this is a good opportunity for the toddler to learn about patience. If I'm feeding Liam and Maddie wants something, I just say "in a minute. Mommy is feeding Liam and then ill gt you crackers. Ok?" This works fine about 8 out of 10 times. The rest of the time I either ignore her whining or I distract with Caillou. hehe

    It is hard the first month or so but then it gets so much easier than ff because your boob is always there and doesn't need to be washed, filled or mixed. We read or watch tv while I feed lo.
