I feel like all I have done lately is write out thank-you notes for the food and gifts we have gotten. I am grateful, but now I am really not wanting to do birth announcements, especially since I would be mailing them mostly to people who I am connected to through FB, email, etc. They all know he was born and have seen tons of pictures. It's a nice keepsake, but how necessary are they?

Re: Are birth announcements necessary?
I think they are nice but certainly not necessary.

This...and I felt like I was obligated to do them with dd since I did them with ds!
I was worries about the same thing, etiquettewise, but I think people understand when you've just had a baby.
Agreed. I'm waiting to get my newborn pics back from our photographer...she is taking forever!! So, I haven't even sent mine out yet, but I will be within the next week.
Love this idea! I wish I had thought of that. I have almost no older relatives who aren't connected by email (no grandparents left, etc.), which is why it just doesn't feel as necessary. I can only think of 2 or 3 people I wasn't able to email...seems kind of pointless.
plus, it's nice to be able to put in his baby book.

Ditto. I got 50 for 30 on Shutterfly so I got them. Plus I feel guilty doing them for 1 and not 2
