DH called me this morning b/c his company is doing open enrollment this month, and in going over information he found that his company has apparently ADDED SOME COVERAGE FOR ASD TREATMENT.
Yes, that needed caps! I've felt so helpless about insurance, because ours specifically excluded any treatment (ST, OT, ABA, anything for developmental delays) and everything has been OOP for us. I looked at private plans, but they don't cover autism therapies either. And DD1 doesn't qualify for a state-sponsored plan because she has access to an employer group plan and isn't uncovered (even though the group plan has not to date provided the coverage she needs). It's an awful catch-22 situation to be in.
We're not sure about the details yet and in-network providers are a huge question mark, but OMG, it could mean up to 60 visits a year are paid, at least partially. That's a huge difference, going from zero to 60!
I'm so proud of DH. He wrote very heartfelt letters about our situation to several company higher-ups more than a year ago, and heard through the grapevine that one particular VP kind of made it a personal crusade to address.
I feel like he was heard, and something changed that could really, really benefit DD1. OMG.
I'm still nervous about the devil in the details, but this could be such a meaningful change for us. Cross your fingers that this turns out to be what we think it is!
