Has anyone had a LO who refused solids while teething? We started DS on cereal at five months and he did really well with eating solids for about a month, then started completely refusing all solids at six months and continued to refuse them for almost an entire month and went back to EBF. A few days after his two bottom teeth poked through (at almost seven months), he started eating solids again.
Since then, he has been eating solids really well for the past several weeks and was up to two good-sized meals a day. Today, he refused both breakfast and lunch. He eagerly ate two bites of oatmeal for breakfast, then started crying and wouldn't eat any more. (I tasted the oatmeal, and it tasted normal.) For lunch, I couldn't even get him to open his mouth for a single bite. He is showing all the signs of teething again, but for his first two teeth, it took at least a month from when he started teething until his teeth poked through. I realize it's only been a day, but I really, really don't want him to have another month of no solids while we wait for his teeth to come in! Any tips for getting him to accept solids while teething? Last time, we tried a wide variety of foods, serving them cold, warm, and room temperature. We gave him chilled teethers before offering food and tried giving him Tylenol. None of them helped to get him to eat solids. Is there anything else I can try?
Re: Refusing solids while teething?
Thanks! I have bananas, so I just popped one in the freezer! I'll try it with his mesh feeder.
Honestly, the reasons I don't want him to regress to EBF for an entire month are mostly selfish. He won't drink from a bottle or sippy cup (when we try to give him a sippy cup, he gets so frustrated and angry that he literally starts shaking), so I haven't been away from him for more than two hours since he was born - and he's seven and a half months now! Obviously, I love him like crazy, and I don't rmind not being able to leave him for a day or two, but it would be nice to be able to go out for dinner and a movie with DH and leave DS with a babysitter for a few hours. Since he started eating two meals a day, he's able to go a bit longer between nursing sessions, so I was kind of hoping he was getting closer to being able to be away from me for more than two hours.
