Halloween Costumes?

It's still kind of early for this I guess but I'm wanting to pick out DS's costume.  What will your LO be wearing this year?  DS isn't into any superheroes or characters which makes this hard! LOL  The past 2 halloweens we've just dressed him up in what we thought was cute for his age but now everything looks too babyish or too grown up :-(

Re: Halloween Costumes?

  • Some generic alternatives to licensed characters that could be cute/fun in their own right:

    cowboy

    sheriff

oldtime weightlifter (super cute using black balloons on a stick as the dumbbell)

    train conductor

any number of animals: owl, lion, shark

Hope that helps.  I often look at sites like Pottery Barn Kids and various costume online shops to get ideas then make something up at home.  DD chose Jessie the cowgirl from Toy Story this year, so that was easy, but she's also been a ladybug and leopard using costumes I made for her...mostly no-sew but the leopard used a cape I found used as a start.

  • It's actually not to early - Target has had everything out for a few weeks already and all the Halloween stores opened in late August/early Sept near me.  Anyway, we are going to Disney soon and have gotten the girls pirate costumes for the cruise pirate night and a princess gown (both chose Rapunzel's wedding dress) for when we go to BBB and the castle for dinner so we told them they could wear one of those for Halloween as I am not buying anything else.

  • DD wanted to be everything!   Finally, she decided on a witch costume found at Children's Place on sale-I think the broom was the selling pt.  Old Navy has a lots of cute costumes.

  • Ask him and/or take him out shopping;  he's old enough now to pick.  And, no its not too early--Ive run into problems in years past where I've waited for 2 wks before and cannot find the size(s) I needed

  • DD is going to be a princess and we found a really cute costume at Marshall's and it has a hoop skirt and a fir lined cape. Much cuter then I expected.

  • We are going as superheros this year. DS1 picked out Robin, not really sure why. For awhile he wanted to be Captin America. So I decided that DS2 would be Batman. Our costumes came yesterday and they were so excited. I was even surpised that DS2 wore the mask.

DS1 has been a Monkey, Max from Where the Wild Things Are, Buzz Lightyear, The Big Bad Wolf, Robin this year.

DS2 has been Woody, The Big Bad Wolf, and Batman this year.

  • Not too early at all! Costumes go fast, unless you are making your own. DD has been a ladybug and Minnie Mouse, twice:) This year, DD is going to be Jessie from Toy Story and DD is going to be Woody.

I think with little kids, if they aren't into characters, then a good old-fashioned witch or monster is cute! Or go online and do some searches for simple but creative costumes you can make with your DS.

  • My DD will be little Bo Peep. I am almost done making it Smile I think anything pretending he is grown up is adorable... Farmer, cowboy, constrution worker, firefighter, cop or how about a robot or something made out of a box like a televison or computer.

  • Hey everyone,

I did some searching around and think I am gonna get my LO a really cute bumble bee costume that I found here https://www.squidoo.com/baby-halloween-costumes-0-3-months Although I am a little torn between that and the funny sunflower costume. Just the little head poking through is hilarious to me. lol

  • This will be dd's 4th Halloween and she is going to be a lala loopsy doll. It's the first time she's shown interest in being a character so I was happy to oblige. =0)
  • I am excited about this years costume.  I figure it is the last year that I get to pick what he wears.  So far he wants something different everyday, so me picking won't be a problem.  I am going to make him a Hobo and make a cardboard sign saying 'Will work for candy' to hang around his neck. I saw it on Pintrest and love it.  For it I am also going to paint a beard/scruf on his face, put a knit hat on him, holey jeans, and a little bit too large plaid, dirty shirt.  The picture shows 2 different shoes, but I am not going to do that to him.  I can't wait!

  • DD will be a dragon this year.  She is OBSESSED with dragons.  Luckily Old Navy had a cute one that I got on sale for super cheap.
