I don't know if I can go without DS for a whole week. DH really wants a baby-free holiday and my mom will watch DS, so I know he'll be in good hands, but I don't know if I'll enjoy myself when I'm going to miss him the whole time... It would probably be good for all of us to have a few days away- I know that in my head, but I honestly don't know if I can do it...
Anyone else leaving DC for a week to go on a holiday?
If you did travel with DC, how was it?
WWYD?
Re: vacation with or without DC?
A weekend? Probably. A week? I couldn't do it. I don't think I could do a week away from even my 3 yr old just yet.
If you think you'd be fine though, I say go for it. But if you think you're going to spend the whole week upset or missing your son, then that's not much of a fun getaway, ya know?
We just went to Vermont for a wedding and left DD with my parents for 3 days and 3 nights. I missed her a ton, of course, but it was great to have some alone time with DH. And I could get ruthlessly drunk without feeling guilty.
We also traveled with her to Boston for Thanksgiving. She was a joy, an easy traveler (I suspected she would be, she's generally a very easy-going baby). It was great, but then again, we had family to watch her when we went out with friends, etc.
I think every couple needs alone time, and you're lucky to have family close by to watch him for you. I am all for it!
When our oldest was 1, we went to Vegas from Thursday-Monday with some friends and had a absolute BLAST. we kept so busy and yes I missed him but it was so nice to feel like an adult again.
We do many hotel nights with the boys (going tonight for DH's birthday in fact!!) - all locally though. This winter we are going to Mexico, no kids and I cannot wait.
DH and I are thinking about going away for 3 or 4 nights in the spring by ourselves when DS is 8 or 9 months old. DH is all for it, and we'd have my mom to stay with DS.
I don't know if I would be up for a whole week, though, and I am a bit conflicted about even what we are considering. On one hand, we do need to get away by ourselves, I think it's really important to have some alone time. (I am sure we'll take family vacations, but you're still in "parent" mode then.) On the other hand, DS will still be so young and I know I'll miss him.
