I'm a FTM. The newness of getting used to my different body amuses me. ![]()
My parents' driveway is very steep. I picked my sister up from there yesterday. As I tried to lift my legs to climb into the driver seat of my Ford 'Exploder,' I found it difficult because they ran into my belly!
Same kind of thing last night before bed. My DH is 6'7" and he and his dad constructed a bedframe for us that he only has to go down a little to get on and I only have to go up a little (I am only 5'3.5"). Because the dogs currently sleep on the floor along my side, I usually crawl into bed from the bottom. Last night I tried and my knees met my bump again! Had to have hubby pull me in.
Funny thing was, I made a comment about it and DH just kind of said, 'Ok.' And smiled to himself. I think he's afraid to say anything even though I told him I find it kind of fun.
One more instance: DH is also just an all around big dude. When we go to restaurants we request a table if they don't have booths with moveable tables. I met him for lunch last week. He had beaten me there and was sitting in a booth where the had scooted the table so he could fit. I go to get in and there was barely enough room for my bump.
If either of us went to get out, the other had to 'think small'! Not normally too much of a problem.
I think it's cool! What kinds of things have you noticed as you get used to your baby bump?
Re: The quirky things of getting used to a bump...
Also, I tried to paint my toenails last night and couldn't comfortably reach them. Looks like I'll be getting a pedicure soon!
This happens to me ALL the time! I totally forget that I cant fit in small spaces anymore!
I do this, too! Seems odd to not be aware of how far it sticks out, but I'm not!
haha.. booths are off limits now.. I just find them to difficult to get in and out of
I keep running into things not realizing the wide load
I had to change the memory seats in my car to accomodate the bump ;-)
I run my belly into the grocery cart, too. And when I step up to the counter to do dishes or something, I inevitably step too close and bump into it. Haha. I found putting pants on this morning turning into a sort of dance routine...It's pretty silly, that's for sure!
Last night, I finally got to do the prenatal yoga dvd that arrived last week, and boy was THAT weird! I used to do yoga all the time pre-preg, but it's so different doing prenatal yoga. I think having a belly is the biggest piece of "weirdness", but the poses you do are a little different, too, just because of physical limitations and whatnot. Very strange.
The week I noticed the steering wheel started to make a noise when I made right or left turns. But actually it was the sound of it rubbing past my belly.
Guess it's time to move the seat back and reach my short little legs a little further (I think I'll need pedal extenders in a month or two).

Yes, this just hit me last week that I cannot fit through my "normal" small spaces and I'm further away from the window above my kitchen sink.
Plus I tried to do some much needed grooming "down there" and I can no longer see it without a mirror. Boooo! DH wondered why I moved the full length mirror into my bathroom...well it's too difficult to shave and hold a hand held mirror at the same time bud...you should try it! Ha!
Henry Cavill...You're welcome!

Yes, socks! I wear socks and tennis shoes every day for work. I have a feeling I'm going to have to have H help me with them soon!
I also have to reach up for my job every day (bookstore, so reaching for higher shelves). Not only can I not stretch as far anymore, but the bump hits the lower shelves, pushing those books further onto the shelf and knocking over displays!
And trying to get cereal out of the cabinet this morning was difficult.

As others have mentioned pedicures, not leaving enough room for the bump and grooming down there have become challenges.
I also am having more trouble reaching high cabinets in our kitchen. I am only 5'0" so I either have to reach, jump or climb to get things off of the top shelves and all of those are very difficult now. We do have a folding step stool but it doesn't fit well in the kitchen so I don't keep it in there.

I hit it with the refrigerator door all the time too, lol.
Its a really good thing ds just learned to tie his shoes because now he ties mine too.
This!
Also, this!! It's the weirdest thing!
Same! Also, I got stuck -legitimately stuck- between the dresser and wall while trying to reach an outlet.
i can't get comfortable sitting at my desk at work anymore....i still have plenty of room between my belly and my desk, but i can't cross my legs, and its not comfy to sit on one...i'm also finding it difficult to do anything that involves anything going on below my waist, like shaving, painting my toes, emptying out the laundry
dh and i were smoochin (woooooooooo
) last night, and he's got a bit of a belly going himself and it was weird because our bellies were touching and it was so weird because i couldn't get as close to him as i usually can....my bump isn't that big yet...just enough to be annoying at times....
