She's becoming a real pain in my arse!

So I decided to baby proof Sophia's nursery so she could play in there after dinner. I did this because I figured it's a new space for her and to ease any boredom. This was hard for me because I basically had to remove everything pretty. I moved the wicker baskets that were not cheap, I cleared off her changing table, drilled holes in her wall and closets to put locks, and put loud colorful toys in there. It no longer looks like a peaceful pretty nursery. So, she goes in there to play and seems really excited. What does she insist on playing with? The floor lamp and the damn hamper! So now I don't let her go in there:(.

  • Awww, I hear ya!  We have changed the configuration of the nursery once and the living room play area three times so far.   As Monica gets taller and stronger, she can get into so many more things!  We have two of those baby superyards linked together and snaking around the living room.  It does NOT look pretty, but at least it keeps her from the TV and DH's computer and the chinchilla cage.

As for Sophia's nursery, can you swap the floor lamp with a table lamp?  We dragged the dresser in front of the outlet and put a table lamp up on it so she can't reach it.  I gave up on Monica playing with the hamper.  It is actually a good thing, because she will entertain herself for a really long time by pulling all the clothes out of it, throwing them around the room, and then putting (some of) them back when she is done.  She loves "doing laundry!"

  • As far as the lamp goes, she's strong enough to pull it down and I'm afraid of the glass breaking. The wicker baskets and hamper didn't pose a problem until I realized the wicker breaks off and she was chewing on the pieces and I myself cut my foot on one. I expect her to play with things that aren't toys but I'm not willing to take a chance with something that can really harm her. She loves the hamper and baskets so I'm going to go to Target and get the fold up ones. It's just funny how they manage to play with the dangerous crap!
  • Ohhh, we have the same problem with our wicker hampers!  She has freak strength and managed to break off one small piece...then the rest is like unraveling a ball of yarn, she just keeps tearing it along the weave and trying to gnaw on the pieces.  Arrgh!

  • I should have mentioned the baskets and hamper were wicker and she breaks it apart:p I re-read my post and it sounds silly without that info.

That did happen w/ one of our baskets, too, wasn't thinking of that part. Why they'd want to eat wicker anyway, I have no clue!
I know right? And why do they find dust bunnies so darn tasty???

This made me LOL! I am picturing DD eating a dust bunny. Hasn't happened at our house yet, but it probably will.

  • I hear you Shanado!

We had DD1's birthday party this weekend. All the toys were scattered on the floor, but the only thing DD2  was interested in was an empty box. Babies. Go figure.

Also? I have ONE wicker basket and DD2 LOVES to try to break it apart. Little booger.

  • We have a tall fan in DS's room that I rigged so he can't get to it to pull it over - I took an empty box, stuck the base of the fan in it, then closed the box top around the pole so the fan sticks out the top. I covered the box with solid-colored wrapping paper so it's not just an ugly moving box, though it's still pretty ugly.

At least I don't have to worry about him pulling the fan over.

Anyway - that's what I thought of when you mentioned the lamp.

  • You can actually get baby-proofing anchors for the floor lamp. Essentially, they clear lines of filament you can use to anchor it to the wall to help prevent her from pulling it down on herself. We have them on our lamps. (I'd still keep a pretty close eye on her, though, to ensure she's safe.)
