Preemies

For those who delivered at 33 weeks

What did LO weigh at 3 months? I have twin boys and they are really starting to have a wide gap between weights. They were always 1 pound difference until recently they are closer to 2.5-3 pounds difference. My one LO is 8 pounds 10 pounces and his brother is 10 pounds 13 ounces. My pedi isn't worried about the smaller ones growth but I was just wondering compared to others. I feel like he is such a peanut still.

  • The thing to remember is that even though they are twins they will still grow uniquely. If your pediatrician is happy with each of their growth curves then try not to worry. I know it's so hard not to compare our babies to others, and as a twin mom it's so hard not to compare them to eachother. But every baby is different.

  • DD#1 was born at 33w 4d and around 3 months old she was 10lbs (I think). I really have to go back and look at her baby book. Obviously with my second she grew a little bit faster (and she was born at 34w). Each kid is will grow at their own speed. I would try not to worry too much. If the doctor isn't to concern, try not to stress about it.

  • My 33-weekers were around 8 and 9 pounds at 3 months.  They are now 18 months and still at the bottom of the size charts (more likely genetics than anything else), but they are very healthy.  My girls started at 3'12 and 4'2 and over time that size gap grew to 2 pounds and then they started to even out.  And keep in mine that mine are identical, but even so, are growing at their own unique pace.

On a fun note, the doc always checks the weight on their charts before he walks in the room, so that he can look at them individually (identifying by size difference) and say "hi baby A" and "hi baby B" without asking me.

  • My daughter is a little over 12lbs at 7 months, she was severe IUGR when born and has quadrupled her weight. My son outweighs her by 3 lbs! He outweighed her at birth by a little over a pound. The pedi is not concerned. Even for her peanut status she rolls circles around my son (she' s like a little gymnast)!

  • DD was about 11.5 lbs at 3m, but between 2 and 3m was when she had a huge growth spurt and packed on the lbs.  For a lot of her infancy, she was even bigger than FT kiddos, but as long as they're gaining on their own curve, all is fine.
