  • Whaaaat? Who knew!

I just remember how I felt in Oct 2011....a bundle of nerves, worried if my water was going to break in the grocery store, worried something would happen during delivery, worried, worried, worried!

Women in my family really never tell it like it is. I wish someone would have told me the things you don't think of. Like just because you get back to your pre-pregnancy weight, it doesn't mean you will fit in your pre-pregnancy jeans because your bones may shift. Or that you may be up all night long with a screaming newborn for five weeks, only to find out its because she wants to sleep on her side and not her back. Your nipples will be so sensitive, when you take a shower you will cringe while the water hits them. Or that there will be days where you miss your old pre-baby life and wonder if having a baby was a good idea.....but you usually snap out of those funks. That you lose some friends because they don't want to hang out with someone with a baby, but it will make your relationships with friends who have kids the same age as yours, even stronger.

I wish someone would have told my SO that when I am frustrated because I can't fix something about Gator and I flip out on him....I never mean it. I wish that someone would have told SO, that if he heard me crying in the bathroom late at night due to hormones and being overwhelmed....to leave me be and pretend he never heard me, but to spend the next few days stepping up his game and helping out. I wish someone would have told SO that if someone comments negatively on my parenting, and then he later says the same thing....it will hurt my feelings a thousand times worse coming from him than it would coming from someone else.

There is just so much I learned this year! Although there were extremely hard times when it comes to parenting....my whole heart and whole world is crammed into the 22lb body of my little Gator. Even the worst day in the world can be made better by a cuddle with her in her footed jammies, while she holds her lovey...while trying to share her binky with me, laying her head on my shoulder....and the smell and softness of her hair. It's amazing how much your life changes....and how quickly you come to realize what really matters!

While my family was always big on saying "Just you wait...." And filling it with something negative....I remember a post from long ago on our boards about "Just you wait....." Filled with positives. Now when a friend has a baby (or two!) I use the "Just you wait....." ONLY with a positive after that.

As baby grows, you think there is nothing better in life than when they smile....but just you wait, they will laugh. And after they laugh for the first time, you will spend all day trying to get a giggle, because you think it is the greatest thing in the world....but just you wait.....then they say "da-da". And it continues to go on and on as they grow and discover new things around them.....and I love it!

A friend of mine once asked me, "Who are you trying to impress? Who is more important to you?" She told me if Gator is losing her mind in the grocery store, do whatever you can to make her happy. If that means mooing like a cow, making weird faces, playing peek a boo, making crazy laughing noise.....do it. People in the store may look at you weird, but you will never see them again. Your child, you will see for the rest of your life. Are you trying to impress your child, or are you trying to impress strangers?

i love the people that gave it to me straight and didn't sugar coat it!

  • Tearing up at my desk. Lovely.

I've been the crazy lady in the grocery store. I hope I can always be that silly for my daughter.

    Elsa, I'm touched tooRight Hug

Yeah, I'm the one making the weird noises too, its sad because usually the ones that do stare look like mothers (older 50s) as well.  Huh?

  • You totally made me tear up, you worded it beautifully.  I wish you lived closer.  You guys really should move in with your sister :-)

I'm the crazy lady in the grocery store, holding produce up for Carson to see, smell, and touch, and explaining that lemons start with the letter L.  I don't even look or care what others are looking at.

Chunstad I might be up there in the next few months! SO may have to go out of state for work and if he does, we might head up. And Gator's pictures were sent in to See Kai Run for a photo shoot in Seattle so if she gets the call, we will have to come up sometime this month for a clothing fitting and again in either Nov or Dec for the big shoot....both times we will stay with my sis!

They were doing a casting call since their warehouse is up by Seattle and they needed babies/kids between certain ages and certain shoe size. I figured what the heck, she owns like 15 pairs of SKR shoes....why not?! So I sent in pictures of her and now I am just in the waiting period to find out if they are going to use her or not. If they use her, she will have to go up once to be fitted for clothes/shoes. And then she will have her actual photo shoot sometime in Nov/Dec...they didnt have the dates listed. As "payment" we will get to keep pictures from the shoot and they will give us 3 pairs of SKR shoes. I figured since my sister is up in that area and I am not working, I have some free time on my hands and I don't mind commuting up there a few times. My SO already commutes up there every once in awhile to do work, so if we get the call and he can schedule meetings for those dates....his boss will pay for a hotel in Seattle and we won't end up staying with my sister.

Wow, that is SO exciting!  Let me know how it turns out.  She's just so precious, of course she'll get a call back.  Geesh, can you imagine that job, trying to figure out which baby fits the brand best?  It would be a blast for you guys to stay up in Seattle, especially if the weather is nice.  But then we won't be able to meet up :-(

I'd totally love to get 'paid' in shoes, btw.
