Do you think that RE's that do IVF are quicker to say you need IVF vs those that don't?
I ask this because I went to a consult a couple of weeks ago at a new clinic (bigger clinic that does IVF) and he was quick to think that I probably won't get pregnant on my own. But with my previous RE he didn't think it was out of the realm of possibility at all that I could still get pregnant on my own since I am unexplained.
Re: RE's that do IVF vs those that don't
My doctor does meds + TI all the way throught IVF. She has never recommended that for us and hasn't pushed IUI either. Her philosophy is to take a minimalist approach. Why go through IVF if you don't need to.
Now, I have heard of other clinics where the doctors won't treat you unless you do IUI and some are more focused on IVF. I think if you are uncomfortable, I would have him explain why IVF is best for you and then possibly get another opinion.
Dx: PCOS and short luteal phase
18 cycles (3 with our RE) - Metformin + Clomid + HCG booster did the trick!
BFP #1 6/22/09 EDD: 3/2/10 DS born: 3/8/10
TTC #2 since Dec 2011
BFP #2 7/8/12 EDD: 3/18/12 M/C @ 9w1d: 8/16/12
I should clarify, they didn't push IVF - he is willing to do more IUI's but he was pretty clear that he didn't think I would get pregnant on my own without any treatments at this point.
It was just a big contrast to what my other RE said (and I didn't leave because I didn't like him but he doesn't do treatment himself so I needed to move on). Anyway the old RE said he thought it was still definitely possible for me to get pregnant without treatment.
Makes perfect sense about the success rates though.
Thanks!
My RE does IVF.
When I first met w/my RE many many years ago (we were u/e) she said she didn't want to jump right to IVF. That w/out trying some less invasive things first it would be like using a shot gun instead of a fly swatter to get rid of a bug. She said, "you might kill the bug but you've put a lot of unnecessary holes in things" lol. We did 4 IUIs before moving onto IVF and it was our choice - we were not pressured.
