October 2012 Moms

Baby Zeke has arrived!

After a long, long labor 30 hours!!! he arrived at 12:31 am on October 2nd, 2012 weighing 7 pounds 12 ounces and 20 inches long.
I arrived at the hospital at 6pm on September 30 to start my scheduled induction. I almost got to skip the cervadel because I was nice and dilated to 3.5cm, but I was still a little high and and not very effaced at all. Within 30 minutes of insertion I started contractions that were 45 minutes apart. I had it in overnight and tried to sleep best as I could.
At 7am I was still only 3.5cm but 90 effaced. They started the pitocin and gradually increased it every half hour until I was at the max allowed at 5pm. Between 7am and 5pm I had contractions that were 12 minutes apart, sometimes coming in groups of 3 with no real break. At 5pm they decided to break my water because I had been stalled out at 5cm for a few hours and no amount of bouncing on the ball or walking around we're helping. The midwife broke my water and immediately the contractions got incredibly intense. I was in incredible pain and there was no break in between. I lasted until 7pm and then when they checked me and I had made only 1/2 cm progress I decided to get the epidural because we were about 24 hours into labor and I was exhausted. I was a little bummed I had to get the epidural but was hoping it would progress me a little bit. After the epi kicked in my legs were totally dead, and they had me lay on my side with my top leg forward to being the cervix down. They checked me again at 8pm and I had progressed to 9cm, was 100 effaced and my cervix was exactly where it needed to be. I was so happy I could've cried. At 10 when they checked me I was complete, the baby just needed to come down a little bit. So I rested for about an hour and a half then we started getting ready to push. The dr showed up and they had turned my epidural off so I knew we were almost there! About 15 minutes into the dr. Realized the baby's head was caught on a vaginal band. She suggested an episiotomy which i told her I'd rather try pushing first. Two pushes later I tore the band and about 30 minutes of pushing after that my peanut,Ezekiel Tanner was born! 7 pounds 12 ounces of squalling glory and worth every minute of labor! I am so in love!
