WCM?

Does anyone have their LO on just WCM now? I'm sure someone does, I could probably search the board, but my computer is dumb as ***. So if someone has asked this, my apologies...

How are you doing the milk? As in, are you giving it as often as formula? Or just with meals, just when LO "asks" for it?

S drinks from a sippy, and those are about 10oz. He is drinking 3 to 4 of those a day. AND eating complete meals, and 2ish snacks during the day. I'm not sure what is too little or too much. So what is your LO doing?

Re: WCM?

  • DS is in full WCM. He gets 3 full sippies a day [I don't know the ozs] then water the rest of the day. He gets one after every meal, then I usually fill the cup up with water with a little milk because he doesn't always like the flavor of just water.

ETA: there are days he gets more than 3 cups. I'd say he averages 2028ozs a day. Pedi said that's fine.

  • I talked to my mom, a dietician, about this today and she said the recommendation for milk was between 2030 oz depending on how much food they are eating. DD is a good eater, so I'm going to try and give her about 6 oz/ 4x a day. She also gets water, and sometimes juice.
  • E is 1/2 and 1/2. We started by giving her 1/3 WCM with her formula at 10 months (keeping her on cereal for the iron). After 12 months we'll transition to just WCM. The AAP says they should have 16-20 oz per day after 12 months so we'll do 3 sippy cups a day of 6 oz - morning after waking up, mid day, and before bed. We're working on weaning from the bottle since they are supposed to be done with that by 12 months too but I think we'll end up going over.

  • DS is 100% cow milk.  He gets a sippy in the morning and 2-3 bottles a day (1 or 2 naps and then bedtime).  I would say it's about 20 to 25 oz a day.

When I asked my pedi, she made sure to emphasis that WCM isn't supposed to replace formula, food is.  She said they aren't concerned usually unless it's 35+ oz a day.

  • We started WCM yesterday, on her first birthday. I tried just giving it to her in a sippy and she just spit it out at me. I left her with the cup while eatting dinner and she kept doing it. Eventually I gave her a bottle with 2 oz of formula 4 oz of milk. I plan on adding more milk every day until she is on straight milk. I have also started she gets a bottle when she wakes up, and before her naps and bed time. With meals she is only getting water in a sippy. We are going to start weaning off the bottle completely in the next few months. The issue we have is my sister (whom lives with us) has a 6 month old and is on the bottle still so my daughter wants the bottle with her.

  • We do goats milk, but at our 1yr appt our pedi told us anywhere from 12-20oz a day was fine. We do 3 6oz bottles/sippys a day. One in the am, one before nap and one before bed. They eat 3 meals & 2 snacks a day and get water with their meals. They usually go through 2 sippys of water a day, probably 8-10oz total.

  • We're slowly introducint WCM. DD gets three or four six ounce bottles a day. This week, we made two ounces of each bottle WCM and kept four of them formula. Next week, we'll make them a little more WCM heavy.

I'm hoping this will introduce her to the taste and texture slowly. So far, she hasn't noticed the change.

  • Li gets 8 oz in the morning and 8oz at night. Other than that, she has full meals and I always have a sippy of water available.
