BGs Repelling After Stripping

Arg. I have some BGs that I bought only a few weeks ago. At first they were fine and now they are repelling. I wash with CC (prerinse, hot wash, extra rinse). I stripped with Dawn but I'm still having serious problems that cause leaks when I put DS on his back. Any suggestions of what else I can do? Bleach?

Re: BGs Repelling After Stripping

  • Did you actually scrub the diapers by hand with dawn or just run them through the washing machine? I had to hand scrub mine once with a brush to get all the junk out. Also someone mentioned yesterday about boiling them to get extra junk out.

  • I would make sure you've rinsed them enough. ?When I strip, I have to do like three really hot rinses and a then sometimes a couple cold rinses too. ?Hot water is the key when stripping. ?I don't know if you can boil though. ?I think that may harm the outer PUL. ?Maybe call Cotton Babies and check.

  • Yeah, don't boil pul - it's too hot for it. You can boil the inserts if they're having issues.

Dawn is nice for helping with stripping but really the key to stripping is hot water. Like HOT HOT water. You need it to break down the buildup in your diapers. I actually pour a pot or two of boiling water into my washing machine as it's filling to make sure it's really hot. It won't hurt your washing machine and it's not the same as actually boiling the diapers so you can do it safely with your bg's. And you really need to rinse rinse rinse rinse when you use Dawn at all. One or two rinses isn't going to do it. I actually find that Dawn makes my diaper issues worse because I have really hard water and can't get it all rinsed out properly.

How much cc are you using when you wash your diapers? Even a couple washes of using too much can cause your buildup issues to come right back.

  • Maybe it's mineral buildup, not detergent build up.  We had that problem so I stripped with Calgon, and now I use a little with every wash and haven't had any problems since.  And you also have to make sure you use super hot water when stripping for mineral deposits too.  I turned my water heater up about 30 mins before I started and then turned it back down when I was done.

  • OK, I am going to try some more hot washes and see what happens (no more Dawn). I added a little bleach. I am kind of confused about how I got build up in the first place if the dipes are so new.?

    I miss my Kissaluvs:(?
